The Ugly Side Of Beauty

I always joke that sometimes people in the beauty world, have some of the ugliest attitudes! Sure they might be in the biz of making others look beautiful, but they do not do this with their attitudes!

Walking around in LA, can make you feel bad. Everywhere you look, it's mostly really attractive, thin, beautiful people. From your waiter or waitress to the people sitting next to you eating. Most people look like models, actresses or someone sort of something that requires you to be beautiful.

BUT....I must remind you, this is the town that was famous for creating movies with fake fronts...fake streets, fake houses, fake towns. Yep, any movie studio, used to have little areas, old west towns that looked real in the front, but behind the fake front was, just a bunch of things to hold of the fake looking front.

And sometimes that's how these people are. They look great on the outside- perfect hair, perfect bodies, perfect clothes but their only beauty is on the outside.

It's like looking at a big fancy house, but when you walk inside it's a dump, full of spiders, snakes, and there's no rooms, just an empty basement looking room that's dark and depressing.

I've met people that are very beautiful on the outside and that's how they are, like the fake house- pretty on the outside but how rude, mean and selfish they are makes them so ugly on the inside, no amount of make-up or plastic surgery will truly make them "beautiful people".

I once had a person in LA, tell me I smile too much, and that I'm going to have so many smiles wrinkles because I'm always smiling.
My great-great Grandma, said you can tell how happy someone is, by the wrinkles on their face from smiling and laughing. That just made me want to smile more...I don't care about my smile lines. I care about how my smile might brighten someone's day.

The most "can't keep your eyes off them", people, are the ones with "plus size" hearts, real life personalities, they love others more than themselves, they smile more, they don't go around saying rude and sarcastic things all the time. They are joys to be around, people miss them when they aren't in the room because they bring a sense of love and happiness, that lots of people lack now.

I've seen models and actresses that are very pretty..but only on the outside. Their attitude was awful, rude and selfish and their only beauty was seen with the eyes. Truly beautiful people's beauty can be felt in a dark room where you can't even see them, you can feel their beauty by the love they make you feel.

My most beautiful friends have:
the biggest hearts...
not the smallest size jeans
not the biggest size bra
not the fanciest handbag or shoes
but a kind smile, a way of making others feel special by caring, and laughing and enjoy life with others- no laughing and making fun OF others.

I hope today you feel less pressure to be thin, wish you had a different nose or teeth or skin, or wish you looked more like your favorite star...
because you can be the most beautiful person where ever you go...because it's your heart that is beautiful, not your "outside"...that is going to get old and wrinkly no matter what!

star scarf i got at Zara- it looks like the star print stuff from Dolce & Gabanna but no where near the price!

And baby is wear top and striped leggins - head to toe Target! ha ha ha I seriously think Target makes cutest baby clothes!

Outfit Of The Day: Winter at the Beach

With my cutest accessory, little Cupcake (not her real name..ha ha ha)..at the beach in Southern California...I just had to walk on the sand for just a few minutes. I didn't need to spend the day there, or even hours, just a few minutes to feel the sand under my feet, play with the sand in our hands, and take in how amazing and peaceful it is to watch the ocean and the waves.

Plus, it was hot and about 95% of all the other females I saw were super tan and in bikinis...except for me and my pale, clothes self. ha ha ha But here's what I had on:
*black stretch skinny jeans
*long, loose black tank top (i think I got at Brass Plum- the younger women's department at Nordstom)
*belted with my super old black belt with silver rings, that I got a Ross like 80,000 years ago
*black fringe cuff I got at a costume/vintage store on Melrose, I think it was American Vintage
*black jelly bracelets, my watch and my huge turquoise rock ring that I just got at a store in the mall that was going out of business
*and my chain necklace, I made like 10 years ago out of some scrap piece of chain I got somewhere
*beach essential sandal- I love Havaiana flip-flops in purple for a pop of color

I love palm trees

And my make-up of the day was:
~nude pink mouth with pink shimmer eye shadow dabbed on the center of the lips
~grey-blue smokey eye - that I watched this smokey eye TUTORIAL to remember how I did it! ha ha

I really miss living by the beach...and I enjoyed every single second we got to stand on the beach! Even if it was only for 5 minutes!

Valentine's Day House Make-Over

Since my house has looked so boring to me, since I packed up all my Christmas dazzlings...I had to hurry and do Valentine's Day decorating....I have turned my couch into and offical "love seat" with these giant heart pillows (which I got at Target).

I also go this cute heart wreath in the bargain bins at Target, I think it was like $2.50 or something!

and last but not least....I got a package of foam hearts from the dollar bin, looped some tape to one side and stuck them in the windows! And it's insta-cute!

The only thing missing is my white Christmas tree, which I used to be my "Valentine's Tree":

I got pink and red paper doilies at the Dollar Store and placed them all over the tree and wrapped glittery pink ribbon around the tree.

And that is how you and some "love" to your house!

How I Fly with a Make-Up Kit

People always ask me:
How do you travel with your make-up when you fly?

ANSWER: I buy my make-up kit a ticket so it can sit in a seat like this?

ha ha ha ha

JUST KIDDING!

But I thought this picture was hilarious!

I always travel anywhere with my make-up kit in one of my ZUCA BAGS, and this zebra and pink one is my favorite, the wheels even light up when it rolls!

Well, the last time I travelled with my kit, I just drove...and that's when I use my zebra zuca, which is the ZUCA SPORT.

The ZUCA SPORT, has fun prints and colors you can pick- and it's a little smaller, the wheel are on the side (which usually doesn't fit in overhead compartments on planes), and my favorite- THE WHEELS LIGHT UP and people are amazed!

When I fly, I usually remember to take my ZUCA PRO. This more, plain looking black one.

It's taller, slimmer, the wheels are tucked inside, and it has fit in pretty much every overhead compartment on any airline I've ever flown.

The PRO ZUCA is great, it has compartments for everything and I can always fit some extra essentials that I might need.

Plus, my favorite is, when you're in the airport, or on set, or anywhere, you can sit or have your client sit on it as a chair (it's designed to hold up to 250 or 300lbs I think!)

So, back to my story...I forgot to switch the compartments from my Zuca Zebra bag into my PRO bag to fly....

My Zebra one (with the extra wide wheels, but oh so much cuter than the plain black one), as usual didn't fit into the overhead compartment. The stewardess said she could check it in with the other bags..to WHICH I said, OHHHH NOOOO- "I've got a lot fragile palettes in there! That's why I bring her with me on the plane!

The airline stewardess said I could just buckle it into an empty seat! And them you have the picture above which cracked me up!

So if you are a make-up artist and need a kit bag to fly with, or if you want to travel with a cool suitcase (these are designed for everything from ice skaters, to dancers, to school bags, to just suitcases)...these bags are amazing. The wheel roll smoother than a Cadillac too!

AND DO NOT REQUIRE THEIR OWN TICKET! ha ha ha h

PS. I travel with all my larger than they allow liquid bottles or containers, in ziplock bags, wrapped in bubble wrap in my check-in suitcase.

Super Bass- Base Coat That Is

Behind every great man, is a great woman....
And behind every good looking manicure is a base coat...
And just like Nicki Minaj sang...Super Bass...she could've sang about a SUPER BASS (base) COAT of polish!

(yes, I know, I miss my yellow rose ring too, but alas most things plastic, eventually crack!)

So, I've known for years how it's essential to use a base coat before you polish, to smooth out ridges in your nails, prevent the nails from yellowing, to make the polish last longer, but I'm sure some of you, like me, have been either:
a) out of base coat
b) didn't really think base coat was necessary
c) or didn't have time to paint on a base coat before polishing your nails turquoise

So the one reason that polishing my nails drives me cray cray, is that you take all the time to do, then day 2 your fingers look all trashy and chipped after you take a shower, wash dishes, or something.

Love your leopard nails..better make em' last with a base coat!

BUT, I just got my BASE COAT love revived. When I got to go the L'Oreal Beauty Suite, I got offered a manicure...and the manicurist was talking about how much she loved the L'Oreal Colour Riche One Stop Base...
and I was A-to-the-May-Z'ed...when almost 6 days later I still had polish that didn't look all "90's grunge nails".

So I thought I'd round up some fo the most buzzed about base coats....que the Nicki Minaj...

What's the BEST BASE COAT for your nails?

Well, I went to Wallgreen's to find the L'Oreal One Stop Base- and they were sold out!

Sally Hansen Insta-Grip
They claim 30 seconds to lock on color!

FANCIER BASE COATS:
CND Stickey Base Coat
This seems to be a fav and has won some "reader's choice" awards.

OPI Start To Finish -Formaldehyde Free Version

Natural Nail Base Coats:
ZOYA Anchor Base Coat
People say this works way better than the CND Stickey Base Coat- and I tried to buy this at Whole Foods and it was sold out too!

Sparitual Lacquer Lock Base Coat
I heard this stuff was pretty amazing! I've seen it at the beauty supply store. And I love, love, love their rubber handles. You'll never have the problem you do with OPI, where you can't get the cap off- you need to soak it, chisel it, brake a wrist..you get the ides- to get it open!

There's some others that I've tried, like the Seche Vite Base Coat...wasn't my favorite.

Let me know, what are your favorite "super base" coats!

Just try it and watch how it makes the difference in your polish- it makes your nails look smooth, like fake nails- glossy, shiny and that polish will stick like super-glue!

Don't just cover your bases...cover your nails with base coat! ha ha ha

3 Beauty Products With Bonus Uses: Make-Up MacGyver

Get ready to MacGyver your beauty goodies....
This just may be the only time we like hearing the words: TWO-TIMER!
Here's a few extra uses for your beauty products that you may not have thought of. So the next time your traveling and have forgotten your eye cream or blush, here's what to do:

1. Lip Balm-
You can use this as an eye cream, on your cuticles to keep them soft, smooth a stray un-controllable hair, even your eyebrows and as an emergency ultra-moisturizer to soften the tough skin on your heels, elbows or knees!

2. Body Butter Or Body Lotion-
Forgot your fav hair smoothing cream on a trip or a date...apply a little lotion to your unruly strands, in a pinch.

3. Baby Powder-
I only suggest a Talc-free powder like Baby Bee from Burt's Bees...
Besides just dusting inside your shoes for a blister free day, you can sprinkle some in the palm of your hands, and apply it to the roots of your hair with your fingertips, to absorb excess oil and give you a volumizing boost to your hair. Also, if you're out of face powder, a dusting of an organic or talc-free baby powder can be a great way to knock the shine right out of any oily spots on your face- it acts as a great translucent powder!

Aww man, I forget to check for the right date, but 3 years ago this month I uploaded my very first video to Youtube. (I actually had been writing my blog before I started on Youtube)....
But January 15th, 2009 I uploaded my first video on Youtube, I don't even think you see my face, and I was sick, my voice sounded all "sicky". It was called "How to Clean Your Make-Up Brushes"...
and yes, I just double-checked- you DO NOT SEE my face at all! ha ha ha

And for everyone that knows my voice by now, you can hear it sounds like "kandee has a cold"...ha ha ha

It's blurry.
You don't see my face.
This was the first video I ever edited.
The first time I every really used a "real" video camera.
And the very first video ever on Youtube!.

3 years and 326 videos later...I kinda have a cold today too (to celebrate! ha ha ha)

I am so amazed at all the precious people that have watched my videos from all over the world...I never thought that when I filmed that video on how to clean make-up brushes, with my squeaky old camera that no one bought at my grandparents garage sale- so they gave it to me.....
that 3 years later I would still be making videos or that so many people would even watch them.

I am truly honored to know that people have liked watching my lil' videos! And that most importantly, I have been blessed with the opportunity to encourage and inspire people...more than any silly make-up tip or trick, or how to cut up a t-shirt or bake a cupcake...

Probably just because I've thought he's so cute, for years. They said he was really nice.

And I saw Kendra Wilkinson and Brad Goreski (from It's a Brad, Brad World), but they were getting mobbed by people!

My New Fragrance LOVE! (but still keeping my old love)

I have tried a million different perfumes.....
but I always go back to my "signature fragrance", that I've worn for about 10 years! Because it smells....A-to-the-May-Zing! My SUD PACIFIQUE Vanilla Extreme perfume!
It smells like a vanilla cake, and I always get 28 billion compliments (I just made that number up, but I do get a lot) when I wear it!

However, after a talk with my Vanilla Extreme, about how I will never replace her, I will always wear her first, I will just spray some extra spritzy-ness of the new gal on...she said ok. (And for all those that literally think I talk to my perfumes, it was just to be interesting...I really don't think my perfume has a brain.)

I NEVER like perfumes on me. I always think they:
*stink
*smell to musky
*smell too spicy
*smells to sickeningly sweet
*end result, I never find perfumes I like....so when I found this one, I was like "hey, it's not too powdery, too sweet, too floral, too this or that"...it's amazing.

It is by Costume National in SCENT GLOSS, it's light, fresh, slightly floral, orchid note but with hints of warmth so it isn't super sweet.

HOW I WEAR IT:
I spray the Vanilla Extreme, as usual on the back of neck and inner wrists. Then I spray the Scent Gloss on my clothes, or give an other spray to the sides of my neck...and sometimes I'll even spray it in my hair.

If you're looking for a good suggestion to tell anyone looking to buy you a Valentin's gift, this may a good one to add!

Top 3 Tips from Celebrity Hairstylist: Johnny Lavoy

This was the awesome creation that celebrity hairstylist and hair expert for L'Oreal Paris, Johnny Lavoy, styled up with my ultra-thin hair when I gave him full creative control! I loved it and got so many compliments all night! (I wish he could do my hair all the time!)

So, while he was shaping and pinning my hair, which he did super fast and with hardly any hair pins!)...I asked him a few of his top tips for hair. So here they are:

#1. Always put in some sort of product, especially a root lift, like what he sprayed in my hair:
EverStyle Volume Root Lifting Spray, he sprayed it in my dry hair, and said it's great because there's no drying alcohol in it like most root lift sprays. (It's paraben-free, and 100% vegan)

#2. If you have curly hair, don't disturb the curl while it dries.
That is, don't scrunch it, smash it, fluff it, separate it while it's wet. He set to let it dry using a diffuser, then add your products and style once the curls have set in their natural curl shape.

#3. EVERYONE, no matter what their hair type, thin, oily, frizzy, thick, dry, must do a conditioning treatment in their hair once a week.
Johnny said this is the one thing people NEED to do. He recommended the EVER SLEEK Sulfate-Free Smoothing Deep Conditioner. He said 1-2 times a week and watch how different you're hair will be!

Kim Kardashian, The Golden Globes and Getting Ready...

So here was my final look....I hair pinned a brooch in my hair....but this is how I started....

MORNING: I got to get m hair done by Stella Kae at the L'Oreal Paris Beauty suite...we talked about being moms, hairstyles, and doing make-up...and she gave me a fun 40's inspired hair do.

I did my own make-up- bold hot-red-pink mouth, shimmery eye, heavy crease shading, and black gel liner and some demi-lashes. (I even filmed a tutorial of it while I put it on!)...I didn't end up liking the earrings I had though....

Now, half the time I couldn't get my camera ready fast enough to take pictures, or people would walk right in the way...or I was just too close that it would be embarrassing to take a picture...I wanted to tweet a picture of Paris Hilton, but since her sister was sitting next to me and she was about 1 inch from me, it felt a little too close! ha ha ha

THE BEAUTY TRENDS FROM THE GOLDEN GLOBES WERE:
Lots of either nude mouth and eyes, or black liner with and without wings and a bold red mouth.
The usual dose of smokey eyes, but mostly the nude look or bold lips and black liner.

75% of my pictures came out blurry or horrible and I got some really awesome pictures of eveyrone from behind...ha ha ha
My best pictures were of Kim Kardashian...who had beautiful make-up....and was also awkwardly close, but I took a picture anyway....(yes, all pictures were taken by me, pretty good eh!?! ha ha ha)

Her make-up was beautiful. Gold shimmery eyes, thick black eyeliner, lots of lashes and a red mouth to match her earrings.

Matthew Lanter (from 90210) and his stunningly beautiful girlfriend who stopped me to tell me she loves my videos and get pictures! She was such a doll and totally made my night! She was such a sweetheart and so beautiful!

I could have a huge list of all the people I saw but couldn't get a pictures of...ha ha ha ha

Here was the Godiva Chocolate Bar...which I visited a few times....hee hee hee

The best part was in the bathroom, they had vases full of L'Oreal lipglosses, mascara, eyeliners..everything for people to take. And 2 make-up artists that would touch up everyone's make-up for you!
And then you walked out of the bathroom 2 ladies would ask for you shoe size and and ask if you wanted a gold or black pair of "Rollasole" ballerina flats to wear home instead of your painful heels and it came with a free lipstick too! Great idea!

At the end of the night they were already rolling up the red carpet...Brad Goreski was busy taking pictures with tons of people.

And me, right before I washed my face...with my up-do' undone and free of all painful hair pins...ahhhhhh

I hope it felt like you got to go with me....because that's the only reason I was trying to take so many pictures!

Here's me AFTER: and what I'm wearing is, what I threw together after I realized I didn't like anything I had to put on! ha ha ha
WHAT I HAVE ON:
A vintage-looking, jacket I got a Dillard's, on sale for $20....an old vinage rhinestone brooch and vintage earrings, my mom got me for Christmas (they are clip-ons, look how red my ears got from them in the pics below! ha ha ha), and a cool rocker-esque, rhinestone and studded, faux-fur clutch from Imoshion. You can't see my shoes, but they were the Gabbor shoe from Steve Madden. (very vintage looking)

This was me BEFORE, no make-up or hair, waiting in the HBO Luxury Lounge, in the L'Oreal Paris Beauty Suite...so many celebs were in there, from all the shows on HBO to Chuy from Chelsea Handler to Tina Fey and all the people from that show, True Blood, which I've never seen..ha ha ha
I was hoping Gwen Stefani would walk in while I was there, since she's in L'Oreal commercials!

This is what the gift bags looked like.....it was so funny, everyone was talking about how the smell of Elnett Hairspray reminds them of their moms getting all glammed up when they were little!

I was instantly in love with all the gold chairs and furniture! Makes me wonder if I should've gone with a gold couch instead of hot pink!?!

The lights were even made out of lipstick tubes! I love it! How creative are they!

Me after the amazing, celebrity hair stylist, Johnny Lavoy did my hair! I said, do whatever you want"...and he made this amazingly, fun, rocker, chic updo!

The sweet, Kristee Liu (and yes, we both loved that we are "K" names that end in "ee")...did my make-up in the beauty suite too! It was so fun to have someone else do my make-up.

I saw some "beauty" friends there....Maxine who own Vanity Girl Hollywood, that makes the most amazing vanity mirrors! Neither me, nor Jeff drink, and I think we had more fun than all the people who were drinking! ha ha ha

and here is the most after of them all picture....me after I took my hair down and took off my "clip-on" earrings...that hung on for dear life on my red ears!

My First Day After The Brazilian Butt Lift

DAY 1- after my first Brazilian Butt Lift Workout.....
OH MY Portugese!
And no, my "boom boom", does NOT LOOK like the girl on the cover of the dvd's boom boom! YET, I will add a big, giant ,YET on the end of that statement!

This was the workout I did, the High & Tight....
and let me tell you, even thought this workout sounds like you are only going to be working you "seat warmer"....my arms were so sore that every time I moved them I felt muscled I forgot were there.

I couldn't even finish one of the moves....my muscles were like, "ummm, no...we're done for today!"....

I used to run and workout everyday but since the only workout I've done since baby is walking down the hallway (ha ha ha), no wonder I'm so sore.

But if you wanna see the reason I wanted to to try this, look at their before & afters here. They are crazy, and gives me hope that...my "seat cushion" can have a nice "Brazilian Bum Bum After" too! Plus I really like the guy's accent in the video and how he says "boom boom"! ha ha ha

4 Ways To Look Good In The Morning

Ok, you guys may think this is a joke....
You may be thinking, "she calls that picture looking good, yeah right! More like, brush your hair, puffy face!".....ha ha ha ha
But this is what I call, bravely posting a picture of my self straight after, brushing my teeth in the morning.

#1. The fastest way to "looking good" in the morning is to brush that funk off your teeth!
-yeah sure this may not necessarily help your looks...but I don't care how pretty someone is, if they have stank-breath...it's just hard to ever forget that stench-memory.

#2. Go to sleep with a full face of make-up on.
ha ha ha ha....ok, so you might wake up with at least one of your eyes still wearing that winged eyeliner, and only half of your face, not rubbed off on your, now, gross looking pillow. But hey...some mascara might have still, clung on.
-actually it just makes my skin feel, dirty, dry and like bacteria is just cooking up a big platter of, blemishes for me. I suggest a fresh wash at bed time, treat your skin to a good moisturizer while you sleep, and my fav a coating of Alba Un-Petroleum, especially around the eyes, and you'll wake up with glowing hydrated, clear skin!

#3. Do not go to bed with damp hair-
This will, and I almost promise you, cause you to wake up looking like half your head is trying a Bob Marley natty dread look, and the other half could do a tutorial on Edward Scissorhand's hair.
~A tip, I used to do, take about a quarter size amount of olive oil, rub it together in your hands, and rub it through your hair, coating the ends really well. Wrap it on plastic wrap (so it doesn't get all over your pillow), and wash it out in your morning shower. That's how I kept the ends of my hair healthy when it was really long!

#4. The Good Night Kiss of Moisture
The last thing that should kiss your lips before you pack your beauty bags for dreamland is some good lip conditioning balm. Let those soup coolers of yours, plump of and soften all night with a good smathering of your fav lip balm. By my bed, I have a Treat Soft Candy Old Fashioned Jumbo Lip Balm in Vanilla Buttercream. It last you forever, tastes like cotton candy, and is 100% all natural- I'm a lip balm fanatic and have been since I was in the Bonne Bell LipSmackers club when I was about 7, and this is the best lip balm ever!

And pretty much every guy, much to my "are you serious-ness?", has said they like me, and pretty much all girls without make-up on. Now, most guys have no clue how much make-up a girl has on, even when she looks like she's wearing make-up. I remember my highschool boyfriend once saying, "I love how you don't wear any make-up"....I wasn't sure if that should be a compliment or not, I mean, I put make-up on...could he not tell, was there not enough on, what was wrong...I just chalked it up to, "oh well, maybe he just thinks I'm naturally pretty!"...
Well, I once dated a guy, who was an artist, who loved to watch me put my make-up on. He would ask if he could watch me put my make-up on, because he said it was like watching art. I thought that was romantic, artsy, and what, girl doesn't mind having a guy like you so much that he'd want to admire you putting make-up on. Instead of hearing a guy complain and ask why it takes you so long! ha ha ha "hey man, pretty doesn't wake up pretty sometimes! I might wake up feeling pretty, but then I walk by the mirror!" ha ha ha ha ha

Fashion Flashback: Me in High School

that is the question....
Bangs, Fringe, Forehead Hiders...whatever you call them...they can totally change the look of a face- make it look wider, shorter, rounder, hide a disliked forehead.
So here is Ms. Kim Kardashian's new hair do of 2012...
or at least her hair for New Years- since she was seen sans bangs, after new years, it'd be safe to say she clipped in some "faux fringe" for a change on New Years.

I know for my face, when I have bangs it makes my face look rounder and in my mind "puffier"..ha ha ha ha

BANGS:
Me, with a wig ofcourse, from my 20's make-up tutorial- hmmm, I like the short wig, but I don't think I'm a fan of the short bangs, even though I know my forehead is gigantron!

NO BANGS:
And here with no bangles, or actaully side-swept bangs-my face looks less round like a lollipop! ha ha I look better with the side swept bang or fringe, it covers part of my forehead but gives the illusion of no bangs, but offers volume and a softer hair line. It's a good thing I did my "how to cut side swept bang tutorial", because it reminds me exactly how I did it! ha ha ha

So what do you guys think... "to fringe (as they say in the UK) or not to fringe"...

My Slim Down Breakfast Before and After

Here's is my slim-down, weight loss breakfast before and after....

But it's not a diet drink or even really for weight loss...it's super packed with nutrients so you will feel full, full of energy, and be getting your body super healthy....and the side effect of drinking this, is your skin will look better and your body will start to get into great shape!

Here's the BEFORE picture:
Organic Frozen Wheat Grass Cubes
Sambazon Frozen Smoothie Packs of Acai (it adds yummy sweetness)
So Delicious Coconut Milk (because I don't really like to drink Cow's Milk or Soy- my skin gets bad when I eat soy)
So Delicious Coconut Milk Yogurt in Vanilla (I get it at Whole Foods)
Organic Chia Seeds (makes the smoothie thicker, adds fiber, and has essential Omega-3 Fatty Acids, your brain will feel happier and your skin will look great with these!)
Frozen Blueberries (for fiber, anti-oxidants and sweetness)
Plant Fusion Protein Powder (for added protein and nutrients)
Kale (It is one of the most nutritionally dense foods around- super, super, super good for you!)

This is what it looks like in the blender.......turn that baby on, go hunt for a glass.... and.....

voila! Yummy, delicious drink that will make you feel healthy...look healthy, and awesome by-product.....your pants start to become looser!

Yeah, I know it's brown-ish.....but so is chocolate and no one complains that it is brown! ha ha ha
Now, if you're used to sugary breakfasts, cinnamon rolls, donuts, cereal....this may not be up to your tastebuds sugar-liking, you can add some agave nectar (a healthy sweetener) or even sugar if you really have to, to sweeten it up....
I just drink it with the sweetness of the berries and Acai.
You have to adjust your tastebuds to not "need" more sugar.
We are supposed to eat for our health, not for sweetness! ha ha ha

Hard, I know....my sweet tooth is pretty big! But I did turn down cupcakes for dessert the other day! Woo Hoo!

So get ready to banish the blues and forget the troubles of yesteryear and get excited to see how great 2012 is going to be for you:

Whether you lost someone you love, lost yourself, lost your hope, your happiness.
Or feel like you're in a funk, you don't know if your dreams will come true, if you'll ever find love...if things will ever work out.
If you've had family or relationship problems or you want to finally lose weight...let me encourage your heart...

Leave all the junk, hurt, sadness, hopelessness of 2011 in 2011...

Don't dwell on the past hurts, problems, disappointments or people.
Think about the change you want, the hope you will dwell on, the good in every possible situation, that you are going to carry on new love, more love, more to give to the world around you.

3. Say hi to someone that needs a smile.

4. Write a list of all the things that make you happy. (from magazines to a song or even a sunset)

5. Write a list of 5 things that you want to have happen or at least start this year.

5. Try at least one time in the day, to make a better choice eating. (say no to dessert, drink water instead of soda, put that second cookie down...)

6. While you're getting your pajamas on, stop and do 10 squats.

7. If you lost someone in 2011, think...I'm gonna make 2012 great and live it to the fullest in their honor.

8. If you've been sad or depressed lately, write a list of 5 things that made you happy as a kid. Some of the things are probably the same, if you liked playing with a camera or drawing, it's probably still the same.

At last but not least-
Go into this year knowing that:

*I believe in you.

*I love you just how you are.

*I think you are perfect just as you are right this second.

*What you have to say is important, and the world needs to hear your thoughts to.

*Wherever you are is the best place to be, because you are there.

*You have talents like a snowflake, that no one else has like yours!

8 Ways and Tips to Get In Shape For The New Year:

I think the most popular time to go to the gym has got to be right after new years, when everyone has made their resolution to "lose weight". And I bet right about 3-6 weeks later, maybe even 2-3 days later, people have given up, lost interest, or said, maybe next week, month, new years.....awww forget it, I'm gonna eat another cupcake!

I miss running. I miss feeling great. Having lots of energy. I really miss running though. My day didn't feel right unless I had gone running. It helped me process all my thoughts, have tons on energy...and I was quite impressed with my calf muscles that just look kind like, well...a little more defined and less,just kinda squishy.

So, yes, I want to get back into shape. Feel great...and in the process I might lose some weight, but I don't own a scale, so I don't even really know how much I weigh right now.

*I have friends that are addicted to weighing themselves, they weigh themselves up to 3 times a day. Well, of course you're gonna weigh less after you poop! Or weigh more after you've eatten or even had a huge glass of water! So I don't weigh myself, I just know when my pants are too tight or too loose! But, occasionally I'll step on the scale at my moms and see where I'm at. The worse was when I was pregnant and I'd have to see how much I weighed all the time!

Here's some get in shape basics:
(and yes, my getting in shape after baby video still needs to be edited, but I did film it...I even shoe how I work out with baby...I'll put it on my "random" youtube channel, www.youtube.com/thekandeejohnsonshow, I think.

1. Every day is a new chance to make some great choices.
2. choose to: eat to live not to live to eat
3. decide on a healthy breakfast like a smoothie or an apple instead of a donut or sugary filled muffin

4. Every day you don't do something towards your goal, you're gonna' regret it- guaranteed!
5. You're never gonna say, man I'm sure glad I polished of that entire pizza and ate a whole sheet of cookies! But you will, say, "I'm so proud of myself, I ate more veggies, green foods, and who knows, maybe even some Fish Oil, Flax Seeds or Kale and Blueberry Smoothie.

6. Think about how great you're going to feel everyday that you can say, I ate great and I worked out, even if it was just dancing to your favorite song!
7. start small- just spend 10 minutes dancing to your favorite songs- you'll be amazed how time will fly and you will have worked up a sweat!
8. try doing 10 push ups, 10 jumping jacks and 10 crunches, then work up to 20, then eventually 100!

You'll never know how great you will feel or how great your body can look if you don't do anything to get that way.

Start today.
~Drink water instead of soda. (even if you say you don't like how "water tastes"...ha ha ha)
~Eat a banana, apple, or an orange instead of a candy bar, chips, or cookies.
~Instead of a big dessert or chocolate, sip some yummy tea with honey, agave nectar, or a little sugar.
~And tell yourself, you can have it later. You know what it tastes like, just think of how it tastes, remember the flavor...and imagine how great you're gonna look without having to burn off all those extra calories!
~Take some almonds or cashews or an apple with you to snack on when you go out, so you don't get overly hungry and cave in to fast food.

We can get in shape and feel great together! Off to go blend up my smoothie!

Ben Breedlove: was on Earth just weeks ago, but is touching hearts from Heaven...

Ben Breedlove, died not long before the new year but his story is still changing lives...

Please watch his video he made just weeks ago. He is in Heaven know...but his story is still touching hearts on Earth.

Someone tweeted me the link about Ben Breedlove...
if you don't know who he is...
he was an 18 year old, handsome guy with a heart that had a serious problem, but would change other people's hearts as well,...who posted 2 amazing videos on youtube just a couple weeks ago, which have gone viral...but just some days after he posted these videos...on Christmas night, Ben went to Heaven...after suffering a heart attack.
I won't give away the rest of his story....

He had hope in God...he had accepted Jesus into his heart when he was 4....
and here is something that could change not just your 2012, but your eternity...
I admire Ben for making this video...for sharing his story....and for telling us about the peace, that none of us have probably ever felt. No need to say rest in peace....he is safely in the arms of God.

DIY Hair Decoration

Why not add some dazzle to your do'?

Time to bust out your craft box- I've got a DIY (AKA Do-It-Yourself) for your hair do!

It's a Hair-Do'-It-Yourself!

I saw these jeweled headbands at the store the other day...they were a little to much money for just a headband with jewels glued on...so I thought I'd show you guys how to make one for way cheaper!

It's easy, fast and anyone can do it! Great for little girls too!

WHAT YOU NEED:

plain headband - (a wide one is good for this so you have room to glue big jewels on)

fake jewels - all different sizes and colors ( I got mine at Michael's craft) For this look the kind with the metal base and prongs will look great to recreate this look, or you can just use the plain jewels too)

jewel glue- special glue for jewels, plastic or fabric is a must have (you could use hot glue, but it will make the jewel raised up a bit)

~I like this Liquid Fusion

~Aleene's Tacky Glue (this works for everything)

STEP 1. start with your plain headband

*tip- pick the side you part your hair on, or like best to place the jewels on. One side works best, you could glue it all over, but it might make the headband a little heavy.

STEP 2. apply a little glue to the back of each jewel and place them on the head band
*tip...it works well to set them on the headband first to see how you like them arranged first. Then glue them after you pick a good "jewel design"
STEP 3. Let dry and get ready to add some dazzle to your do'!

and I made my sister put this on and model it for me this morning while she was washing dishes..hee hee...I promised I wouldn't show her face as she had no make-up on, and it was right after she woke up! ha ha ha

And what better way to ring in the new year than by looking and feeling absolutely beautiful (and quite kissable with a sassy pale, nude mouth)...

I found this really cool, small dish rack in the kitchen department at Bed, Bath & Beyond.

What I got for Christmas....

These are a few of my favorite things I got for Christmas....
besides having everyone with me...(they were my favorite gifts)...my favorite people got me some of my "new favorite" things, that I'll probably be wearing in my videos and people will ask where I got them..and now you'll know, they were gift and I have no idea where anyone got them!

My sister always get me some of my favorite jewelry...my famous yellow rose ring- my sister got me.
And this year she got me some favs too:
The purple stone necklace with the chains...
And the gold dangling star earrings....she got me too! Oh thank you Sister Claus!

And I put in a request for Betsey Johnson Glittery Make-Up bags! See them on the right.....they are coated in glitter and a layer of plastic, so no glittery mess!
I also got a Betsey Johnson Leopard ring!

And my mom got me a Gwen Stefani Harajuku Perfume in Angel- it smells delicious, like candy (not me, but the sugary treat!) ha ha ha...I love all things that smell like Vanilla or Candy!

And a collection of vintage jewelry-the yellow and peach flower brooches, the rhinestone earrings, and the white bracelet with rhinestones on the side.

I love all things vintage!

So everyone got me everything I love.....glittery, sparkly, twinkly stars, anything Betsey Johnson or Gwen Stefani or vintage...and a little bit "rock" (literally that purple stone) and "roll"...I love the chains!

I would've loved if they just got me coupons for hugs...but I will treasure these gifts always....they were gift from their heart and I love that everyone knows me so well, they know exactly what I love and when I wear I'll think of them!

5 Ways To Survive Christmas

(yes that was me in high school....many, many Christmas mornings, ago)

Sometimes the holidays are not as fun as they are for everyone else...

*Maybe the holidays bring memories of hurt or sadness.

*Maybe it isn't a happy time because we don't have a loved one with us.

*Maybe certain members of our family have a way of stealing all our happiness and ruining the "happy holiday spirit"!

*Maybe finances are making it feel like Christmas isn't as fun because we can't afford to get everyone the presents we like.

Here's 5 ways to help make it through the holidays if you are dealing with any of those things:

#1. Sad Holidays-
The holidays aren't always everyone's favorite time of year. Sometimes they come with a lot of memories of hurt or sadness. Maybe something that wasn't very good happened at Christmas time, and it has felt like it's ruined it for you. But, sometimes that is exactly the time to make new memories- time to forget what is behind us, and make new memories for the future. I have memories of holiday times when things were not very good and full of hurt and sadness...but just like the bigger picture of life- I'm not going to let the "poop in the past" , stink up my future! Make some new memories, wash the dirty ol' sad memories out of the memory laundry and get ready for some fresh new memories. If you keep focusing in the pain in your past, you'll never enjoy the gift of joy that is waiting for you right now.

#2. Missing Someone-
This Christmas makes my heart a little because someone in our family is not with us.
And as much fun (or not fun if you have a difficult family member) as it is to be with loved ones, sometimes, for many reasons we don't have them with us.
And then I remember, Christmas is to celebrate the one who was born, who can comfort us, strengthen us, and bring great joy into our hearts, Jesus. God knows all the hurts in our our hearts, and sometimes when there is not comfort left on Earth, we might look to the comfort and love that God can give that is like nothing else we can ever, find, buy, or person we can be with.
I have been alone on holidays...and sometimes what helped me was telling myself, "this will make a funny story in the future! My little holiday I spent alone!" and "Next year I'm gonna' make it times better than this year!"
The memories of that person lives on in our hearts and we can take the joy that they gave us, and let in live in our hearts for them. They would want us to be happy and have a good time in their memory, I'm sure.

#3. And then maybe you wish a certain family member wouldn't show up!
I think everyone has at least one family member that you wish would decide not to come to all your family gatherings!
That one (or maybe more) person, who has a way of hurting your feelings, being annoying or rude, says things that no one should say, has hurt you in the past...you get the idea and you're probably already visualizing that person in your head!
I have these people in my family. They make me worried that at any moment they are going to switch from being nice, to saying someone that will hurt my feelings. And others that have behavior that is just embarrassing or rude!
All you can do is: prepare for them in your mind! Be prepared to let things they say roll off your back..not hurt you. Don't let them steal your joy, make you feel bad, worthless, or embarrassed. Treat them like an annoying sound you might hear- just ignore it and keep on doing what you're doing! The greatest way to deal with awful people or family is to ignore them! And know that I love you- I think you're awesome..and I'm sending you extra hugs and love to know you're not alone in dealing with difficult family members...I'm preparing to deal with some of mine as we speak! ha ha ha

#4. Hey, where's my millions at? Finances took a holiday too...
Sometimes due to a diet that our money has gone on, and forgot to tell us...or loss of a job...and kind of loss of money...it can make us feel like we can't have a fun Christmas. Can't give the gifts we want, but Christmas, at the very core- without all the presents, Christmas parties (which I didn't go to any), big dinners...but mostly lack of being able to afford presents...makes us feel bad.
I know...as I said in my recent, present wrapping video, once when I was a young married couple, and Jordan was a baby, we didn't have enough to buy a tree. So i cut out a tree shaped piece of cardboard from a box and taped it to the wall. It was cute and very artsy! ha ha
Another year, to save money on tree decorations...we strung real popcorn onto string with a needle...and you know, it was so cute!
Another year when money was tight, instead of a gift we gave coupons for things like: FREE FOOT MASSAGE, I'LL COOK YOU DINNER, I'LL WASH YOUR CAR, FREE HUGS (even though that's a regular thing)....
and the best part is you can make it through anything, saying: "we're gonna make next year even better!"...and you better believe it!
God gave us the greatest gift in the world, his son, Jesus. To save our hearts and to help us make it through in anything, with him in our lives and joy in our hearts.

#5. Last but not least...Here's how to make your Christmas great no matter what:
*make a yummy cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream
*think back to your favorite Christmas memory and how excited you were as a kid
*know that next year, you have no idea how much more amazing and better it might be
*curl up with your hot chocolate and a blanket and watch your favorite old holiday movie, like Miracle on 34th Street (cool fact, Ben Nye did that make-up for that movie- I still love his make-up and got to tour their factory last year!)
*burn a yummy holiday smelling candle
*enjoy all the little cozy decorations you might have put up, even if it was just a cardboard tree cut out!
*and if you can help anyone bring a little joy into their lives, that is truly the best way to celebrate...

A Little Surprise From MAC- around the corner!

I know, I know...I already blogged about the sneek peek of the "day-after-Christmas" launch of the MAC Daphne Guiness Collection, CLICK HERE TO THE WHOLE COLLECTION , But there is a little extra surprise!!!

In the picture above you can see the top left corner ...you'll notice a pretty little "beauty powder" compact....in TOO CHIC.

it is beautiful...it's a delicate, shimmer, highlight powder- not too glittery or sparkly...and the reason I like it, is because it's like my ALL-TIME favorite highlight powder from MAC, Silver Dusk...except it's not a loose powder and it's warmer and peachier without being gold -will look great on all skin tones!

I love the shades of this collection- it reminds me of a lovely watercolor, or a painting of ballerinas in shades of pink, and a stormy sky, hovering over the warm glow of the Eiffel Tower, or something romantic like that!

NOW: the only thing I know about the BEAUTY POWDER is that it is part of a new, exciting collaboration, that as soon as I know more about, you can get your blush, I'm gonna let you guys know!

Now, I already blogged about my favs from this collection...but I gotta tell you, and all my fellow NUDE LIP color lovers out there...this color:

BOREALIS in the MAC Cremesheen Glass....

is a bee-uuuuuuu-teeeeee-ful nude gloss- it has cool tones to cancel out any all all redness that is not part of the pale nude lip! ha ha ha

This is me wearing all the colors from the eyeshadow palette- which I love- warm taupes, grey, and nude pinks--- pret-tay! It looks so naturally pretty, but you could pump up the glam volume with the darker lip colors too!

And I am in love with the Ombre blushes...it's like you get 3 colors in one! They need to do more of these- and they are just beautiful to look at.

*And the minty green nail polish is something I think I'm gonna love!!!

#1. The Santa Presents

-these look so stinkin' cute under the tree.

what you need: red wrapping paper, black duct tape, gold duct tape (yes they make that! Isn't that awesome?), gold glitter tape, the kind you get in the scrapbooking aisle at a craft store.

#2. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Wrap-

this is one of my favorite and it will match your nails if you did my "holiday nail tutorial"! This is a really cute way to wrap kids presents. My kids love these!

what you need:

brown wrapping paper or brown paper bags, black, brown or white Sharpie Paint Pens, Elmer's Glue, and red pom pom balls.

#3 Hip Hop "inspired" Wrapping-

(this I made for Jordan, since he wears a gold chain like this too..ha ha)

what you need:

black wrapping paper (it looks more manly..and mine was matte black, you could do a "rat rod" version of this too), gold duct tape, and some fun gold rope or chain looking trim (I got mine at the Dollar Store)

#4. Candy Land Sweet Wrapping-

like a sugary delight from Wonka Land! And this goes with my "Kandeeland Christmas theme"..if you missed it, check out my Holiday House Tour by CLICKING THIS)

what you need: white or pink wrapping paper, a package of candy buttons.

#5. Gingerbread House Present-

this is so adorable...this is way more time consuming, but maybe you could just wrap empty boxes and use this as decoration! Might be too pretty to ruin by unwrapping! ha ha

what you need:

brown wrapping paper or paper bags, white pipe cleaners, fake snow, little candy stickers or decals from the scrapbooking aisle again, or you could really glue on real candies, a hot glue gun.

#6. Mustache Gift Wrap - AKA The Glam Stash

This is hilarious and these are funny for any males on your gift list!

what you need:

any color wrapping paper: I used black wrapping paper, and glitter wrapping paper I got at Michael's Crafts, Elmer's Glue. You can use the mustache stencil from my "mustache mug" tutorial HERE, to cut out the mustache shape and glue it on the present.

#7. Fashionista Zebra Print, Glits and Jewels

-any girly girl, big or small will love the "glammy zebra print" of this present wrapping!

what you need:

zebra print wrapping paper (I got mine at Michael's Crafts), glitter ribbon, any kind of plastic jewels to glue on, I got my glitter star name tags at Target.

#8. Snowman Gift Wrap

-he might be the only one that won't melt under any holiday stress!

what you need:

white wrapping paper, black sharpie paint pen, orange marker to draw on his "carrot" nose, black duct tape to make his hat, any ribbon for his scarf.

9 Reason Why People Hate Tim Tebow or Anyone

I do not follow sports.
I didn't even really know who, Tim Tebow was until a few days ago, when they were making fun of him on Saturday Night Live.
I like his eye "eye blacks"....the cool "under eye make-up"-those things football players wear to keep the glare out of their eyes.

But Tim Tebow...is doing something great.
And there, my friends is right where the haters enter.
He is not just the quarterback for the Denver Broncos, he is a man with a huge heart and even bigger faith. He has multiple foundations...he helped opened a hospital in the Philippines, he has a Wish Foundation to make the dreams of children, with life-threatening illnesses, come true. He even has more foundations for children than just those!

So why is there an, I HATE TIM TEBOW Facebook Page?

9 Reasons Why People Hate Tim Tebow OR Anyone:

1. Haters don't have to look at themselves, or at their inner problems when they are so busy focusing on someone else- doesn't matter if it's a celebrity, schoolmate, family member or co-worker.

2. Some people's favorite pastime is to judge others. - Why look at your own problems when it's easier to point out everyone else's!

3. People are typically insecure. -And what makes you feel better about yourself that tearing someone else apart, right? (no, not right)

4. Haters feel better about themselves when they make fun of others.

5. Haters don't have to deal with the pain in their own lives, when they are distracted by gossiping about others.

6. People are jealous. - If anyone is doing better than they are, for any reason, they hate them for the success they have for whatever reason they are doing better than themselves.

7. People who are unhappy, like to complain with other unhappy people. - It's more fun for them to gossip about others than to try to think of cheering others or themselves up in a positive way or to even try to find the good in a person.

8. Tim Tebow is doing something great, he is standing up for his beliefs, and he is trying to make a change in the world, he has a message of hope to share. - Most people who are lost in hate-land, despise anything good that someone their are "hating on", does, especially if it has to do with someone's faith in God or helping others.

9. Haters think it's fun to bully, make fun of and mock others. - It's a sad past time. And the saddest part of all, is they are so busy wasting their life away starting "I HATE TIM TEBOW" facebook pages, you can see the old saying: Where you put your time, that's where your heart is:

focusing on hating someone. It's a sad group of people that focus their precious lives on "hating" someone...that in the end does nothing for them, but ironically make them focus their thoughts on someone they "hate". It's kind of funny, or sad, when you think how backwards they are.

I like Tim Tebow. I'm a "liker" not a hater.

I just read this morning, this is one of his favorite scriptures (and mine too) that he wears as his, manly, "football make-up" (AKA eyeblacks):

Philippians 4:8-9, the Apostle Paul writes, "whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things... and the God of peace will be with you."

I know many of you have emailed me about haters, whether at school work, the internet, or even in your own families...please share this...you may not love football or even make-up...but one thing we need to do more of, is to love others and look for the good in people- when we do...we will notice how we have given out love and it has boomeranged back into our own lives....

Hair so good you wanna kiss it....

Everyone was asking what I did to my hair in my recent videos...well I cut my bangs and went back to me cutting my hair myself.

I know you've heard the saying: "If you want something done right, do it yourself"....

I've cut my own hair for years, for this very reason...even my "boy short hair". Well, except for this year....I let someone at a salon cut my bangs or as our friends in the UK call it, fringe.

Now I know there are tons of hairstylists that are amazing...but for me...not one of them has ever cut my bangs the way I love them...until then I'm gonna do it me-self!

And let me just say, it's been making me want to shave my head again....ok that was a bit extreme, but I have not loved my hair, it hasn't felt like "me".

Then I remembered my favorite hair has been when I cut my hair and "bangs" or "fringe", myself....enter this old video I did on "How to Cut Side Swept Bangs"....

Isn't that funny that I watch my own videos to remind me exactly how I did something....ha ha ha

My Candyland or Kandeeland Holiday House Tour

*MY FAVORITE BUDGET-DECORATIONG IDEA: wrap empty cardboard boxes in pretty paper and ribbon and stack on top of each other for a beautiful decoration of an entry table, centerpiece or anywhere that need some dazzle!

*my favorite room in the house- hot pink couch and a candy tree!

*this poor thrift store table and chairs have been painted so many times, first black, now glossy white with the top a hint of minty blue. The chairs were first brown, then I spray painted them gold, now this happy buttery yellow!

*these organic candy canes are the perfect "vintage" shade of red - (candy dish from Michael's Crafts)

*giant candy ornaments from Michael's crafts (on sale for 70%! candy jackpot!)...garland, from Target last year- the ones this year weren't white.

*DECORATING TIP: I bought a bunch of cheap glittery ribbon from Michael's on slae for like $1.50...then you just wrap ornaments, trees, wreaths, presents with it and it looks beautiful!

*BUDGET-FRIENDLY TIP: I got these glitter-foam shaped christmas trees for $1 for 5...just loop some tape around and they make the cutest window decorations!

*BUDGET FRIENDLY DECORATING TIP: I got packs of "fake" candy canes for $1 from the dollar store. I also got the packs of 3 glittery snow flakes for my mantle at the Dollar Store!

I made this wreath with ribbon, and candy cane ornaments and lollipop ornaments from Target. I put tons of Christmas light, cake stands, candy jars and all kinds of fun and sparkly things on my mantle. I wanted it to look sparkly, twinkly, and like a candy wonderland! I used some old ornaments I just wired to the wreath with ornament hooks.

Stockings and the "happy holidays" sign (which I love because it looks vintage) are old and I can't remember where I got them...maybe target or michaels.

Here's the tree I scored at Target, after Christmas last year for 10 bucks!!! Well, it was supposed to be a lighted tree and the top half didn't work, but who cares, I just strung some more on!

The best part...the kids said: "thank you mommy for decorating our house so pretty"...that made it worth everything!

The only thing missing is one of my favorite things that I've loved since I was little...my mom's old Nativity Scene- that's buried in her storage. It's not very "baby-proof-friendly"..so last night a bought a little Fisher Price Nativity Scene...because the birth of our Savior is the most beautiful gift we've ever been given. And that is at the heart of or family's Christmas...the decorations just make it feel fun. I actually saw a "happy birthday tree" at our church...it was white and had pastel colored balloons, streamers, and birthday hats all over it- it was beautiful!

Now the only "working-out" I do, is high-speed typing. Great.

Man, I need to start working out....and stepping out into the sunshine. If only the glare from computer screens wasn't so gnarly, I'd go sit outside and edit my videos.

Peep these babies that I spent many hours in doors, mostly late into the night when everyone is asleep, editing.

Sometimes weird things happen in my life and all of a sudden...I'm like Vanilla Ice, and got the lyrics to my dope new blog....oh wait I write blogs, not "fly raps"...
Well anyway, just chiggity-check-out-my-problem-and-I-wasn't-gonna-solve-it:

Now before you sit there scratching your head more than V-Ice's dj scratched a record...as to why the hootenanny I posted a picture of my windows....
Let me get on the mic....I mean keyboard and break it down.

So listen to my story just sit right there...

how my broken blinds bugged me... but I tried not to care...

Shortly after moving into my lovely rental home

I realized one of the blinds didn't work...

so it's been about a year now, that I have just put up with the semi-claustrophobic-ness that this broken shade creates from not letting us see out.

And I love to see outside....I've lived in places where the only thing you'd see out your window was a wall or another house...and now I have a pretty view....and you can't see much out of it.

SO....fast forward to a few days ago....me asking my mom if she thought I should try to take it down because it's kinda' starting to drive me crazy that you can't see out.

She asks, "have you called the Landlord?"

I say: "Yes, I've told them 3 times that it is broken"

My mom: "Well, call them again, tell them to send someone out to fix it"

So basically the message of my rap...er, I mean blog (this doesn't even rhyme), is:

This could be a relationship problem, a career problem, a financial problem...or anything you've been letting go in the:

"what's the use - it's too far gone to fix - there's no way that is fixable - I'll just get used to it - I've already tried to fix it - I've already talked to them about this - There's no hope, it's ruined" box in your head.....

make one more "call", try one more time...

because what you make think in your head is a problem too big, too much of a hassle to fix...

you might just found out like i did....

that...I guess "my window problem" that I've just been putting up with....is a super simple fix...and the guy is coming out with the missing part to fix it.

Maybe you have a relationship and you've told the person something 100 times...maybe you just need to remind them for 101st time, in a nice and fun way...

and that was their "well, maybe if they tell me one more time....I'll take it as a sign"...time!

What the F-stop & 3 Most Asked Photo Questions

(I love this picture...I love my friend Jordan blowing bubbles, and Okie, a master lighting guy, that works on huge music videos and shoots- holding a Hello Kitty bubble blower! And how you couldn't see my checkered vans in any of the final photos- these are from the shoot that I use in almost all the intro's of my videos.)
I have a friend who takes amazing photographs.
His name is Ian Ruhter.
He has shot countless covers of snowboard magazine, his work has been displayed on billboards and in ads seen all over the world.
I've done make-up for him on shoots for Vans (shoes) and for Four Square.
He's taken some of my favorite pictures...

Ian travels all over the world, from Japan to New Zealand, for shoots.
Sometimes his shoots are so crazy it doesn't seem real....

I asked him some things about photography since I have no clue, other than i love it. I thought I'd share his "top 3 most asked photography questions" with you.

1. What kind of camera should I buy?
I always suggest using one that's very easy to use. At the end of the day, the camera doesn't take the picture, you do. (Ian suggested I get a simple camera like the Canon Rebel to use for my blogs...Might be a little better than my "iphone photography"...ha ha ha)

2. What is the best way to create a beautiful image?
The technical aspects of taking a picture isn't as important as you shooting from your heart. When they emotions are conveyed through the photograph, that's what makes it great.

3. What is the best lighting for photographs?
I like taking photos in the morning or at evening when the light is soft and warm.

And what the f-stop he's doing that no one's ever done before- he's so futuristic he had to go back in time! This is Ian and his a little somethin' somethin' on why he's making photographic history and what photography is missing these days:

When I started as a photographer, I was shooting film and enjoying making images with my hands. However, as my career and technology progressed my process switched to digital and somehow I ended up spending all of my time in front of a computer editing code rather than capturing life. Photography, which had started as a form of art for me had evolved into something else, something less personal and true, something
vapid and much less inspiring, and therefore less fulfilling.
This all changed when I began working with a process that would take my art and my life in a new direction. Over the past 18 months I have been working with a nineteenth century process called wet plate collodion.This is one of the earliest forms of photography and it produces some of the truest images I have ever captured.This process has transformed my life and reinvigorated my passion for photography.

Using wet plate collodion, my hand literally touches and oversees every step of the process. Each unique plate is a positive image captured in wet emulsion on a piece of metal or glass. I am now able to produce unique works of art, impossible to replicate, that express my true artistic vision and capture so eloquently the essence of my subjects.

The first photographer to suspend a subject in mid air was Eadweard Muybridge, and he did this using wet plate collodion. His famous images captured a horse galloping 40 feet per second, thus changing the way we see and understand the world forever.

Capturing an image through this process is extremely difficult as it requires the photographic material to be coated, sensitized, exposed and developed within the span of about 15 minutes, necessitating a portable darkroom for use in the field. For these reasons it has mostly been confined to landscape photography and other special applications where minutes-long exposure times were tolerable. With my background shooting action sports it was inevitable that I would try to bring wet plate and action together. As I researched further however, I realized it had not been done since 1878. So, in the months leading up to the shoot presented here, I worked tirelessly experimenting with artificial light and the collodion chemistry. I never thought these experiments would lead to me doing something that had never been done before. In the process of losing my way I ended up back at the beginning not only of my career but photography. I was not aware at the time but everything I love about photography I
rediscovered through the use of wet plate collodion.

My Enchanted Room Tour - come and see!

Oh come see! Come see! This is my new favorite room in my house! Is is where I film my videos...it isn't really a room with a door, as much as an area I have just filled with tables, drawers, desks, crafts, lot of containers with make-up, all my filming equipment, lights, tripods...and my one of my favorite things in all the world...my "fairy lights"!

When I was small, about 6, I used to set up displays on my dresser, on my night stand, on rocking chairs...anywhere. I would arrange little books, my stuffed animals, ribbon I had curled with my safety scissors, little figurines. My mom, would let my little 6 year old self, take pictures of my "scenes" with her big fancy camera. (Thank you mom for letting me play and be creative, and not for saying your camera was too expensive for me to play with. The gift of creativity you gave me, far outweighed the price of that camera. Which I did not break either.)

I filled this area with objects of varying heights (which is always more interesting for the ol' eye balls), and with all kinds of things I just love and think are fun, cute and "candyland-ish". I used ornaments from Target, things from my vintage hunts, fake flowers I removed from their plastic stems, candy jars and cake stands...
PS. I have a fun tutorial idea for how to make the most adorable cake stands! Not sure if I should just blog the project or make a video- it's pretty easy, but sometimes videos are easier to see learn as I do it.

This is a vintage cake stand cover that I got at my favorite "second-hand-vintage-hunting-store". My glitter deer, Bambi 1 and Bambi 2 (I always thought Bambi sounded like a girl name)...one of Bambi's legs was broken a few years ago in an accident.

I got these stiff Ribbons at Target, and my little music inspired magazine rack, is another treasure from my fav store, it was only $12, then I saw another one in an antique store for $40! I scored.

I love this room...or at least the part of the room...I was thinking of doing a video tour of all my holiday decorations and show you my trees and everything, because my trees are my favorite trees I've ever decorated- they are even MORE "candyland" than this!!! And you can see how I used Dollar Store goodies to create our "fun-scapes"...let me know if you'd like to see!

I have been amazed, mesmerized, and and think these are such an amazing invention. BTW: they were invented by a 12 year old girl, who though temporary lip tattoos would be fun- she told her dad, and they started Violent Lips. I met them at IMATS (the international make-up artist trade show) and they are so nice! I ran into them again at Sephora in Santa Monica, and they we so sweet and thanked me for using them in my 4th of July video!)

I have been semi-obsessed with the garlands from Confetti System, the one girl- Julie Ho, one guy, Nick Andersen, team of creative designer, owners, and creators, that make the most amazing, sparkly, party for your eyes garlands...All of their creations are Pinterest worthy, and if you have seen my Pinterest...these garlands are on their baby!

Sometimes I feel like make-up is choking me...

I am sick.
As you can see, I don't have make-up on. Not only because it was right after I got up, but because sometimes I don't want make-up on...read below.

*I was supposed to film my "gift guide for guys" video yesterday..but due to being sick, not able to breathe, and Jordan saying I sound awful...I wasn't able to.
*I was going to stay up late last night, burn the midnight oil- to you an old phrase, and edit a "how to make a cakestand" blog...but that didn't happen due to me feeling awful, and kids waking up, because they felt awful too.

I'm going to try again today...we'll see...because this stuff is so fun and awesome....
one hint: one of these things turns old gift cards or credit cards into the coolest, rocktstar-status-coolest-things ever! Jordan said so.

And for some reason, when I'm sick, the idea of putting makeup on my face feels gross and like it will make me feel more "stuffed up and hard to breathe", than I already am. Does anyone else feel like that? I know, I'm going to look bad from being sick, but the idea of putting make-up on when I'm sick just sounds... not good.

So perhaps my gift guide will be sans make-up....maybe I'll just glue a beard on...and be a "guy" doing a guy gift guide...ha ha ha ha. Ok, the beard hair sounds like it would choke me more! ha ha ha

Ok, off to go drink tons of water, take all my supplements, and whatever other healthy, homeopathic alternives I can take to kick this cold to the curb.

How to make your room enchanting...

ok, here's just a little sneak peek at my new "background" I've been working on my for videos! I can't wait to show you guys, and I can't wait until it's finished! I have a few more things to do...
and if only we didn't need to sleep, I could get them done!

Oh....I'm so excited....
it is inspired by candy, vintage treasures, old candy shops, candyland, Serendipity (the movie, and when they actually go to Serendipity, and it is amazing- twinkly lights and interesting things all around. When I first went to Serendipity in NYC, I was sad that it didn't look as enchanting as in the movie, but they have set decorators to make it look more amazing for the movie. This is me and baby in the "real" Serendipity 3, looking at all their fun jewelry as we waited for a table...this was a few months ago...

The Sundae's and desserts at Serendipity are A-MAY-to-the-Capital-ZING!!! I got the standard sundae...and my mom got the Sand Tart...oh my delish-she-us-ness! It is coffee ice cream (I know, I don't drink coffee, but I love coffee ice cream...weird.) Homemade hot fudge, the shortbread type "sand" crust...and I just wanted to forget my sundae and eat her dessert, instead.

Ok, I started this whole blog to show you a little glimpse at my fun new decoration project....now I am craving a sand tart from Serendipity and it's on the other side of the country, so there's no hope for getting one. ha ha ha

Oh, boy...maybe I'll make some hot white chocolate...oh maybe I should do a video on that!

Once Upon my short hair...

Here is a tale of two hair colors...many years ago when I chopped of all my hair...
When it was really short, much shorter than in either of these pictures...I actually don't think I have any pictured of when is was more "shaven" looking.

I was looking through some photos, as I was already in "going through" things mode from attempting to organize my make-up-filming-crafting-area last night...
and I thought it was funny that these pictures were near each other...it looked like some silly experiment or app where you can see what you look like with different colored hair...
and I thought you guys might think it's fun to "go through" my pictures with me too....

this is the longest I've had the same hair color in years...and it's not even an exciting color, it's just my natural, "so dark brown, it almost looks black" color...ha ha ha

This cost me, well after buying the ceramic pen,...$1 to make! Yes, for a buck, this will be your cheapest Christmas gift idea ever! And it's super cool and fun to give! You could even paint a set of 6! Give them to everyone you know, boyfriend, dad, sister, uncle, aunt, friends, co-workers- and they'll never know it only cost you a dollar a mug! You can even just paint up a set for yourself!

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED: (and watch the video below for how instructions)

1. a plain mug or coffee cup (I got mine at the Dollar Store)

2. any kind of clear-ish scotch tape

3. scissors to cut out your mustache stencil

4. the Mustache stencil that is below.

5. a ceramic paint pen that you can bake, and it will become dishwasher safe. I used the Pebeo Vitrea 160

How To Dazzle Up A Room (peek inside my makeup room)

I've had grand plans to dazzle up my make-up/filming/video room. I've had even "grander" plans for a video background, but since my plans required big power tools and materials I don't own, they are on hold til I get more "toolery".

What I do have is all my favorite things vintage, sparkly, and candy themed. As you know, I love thrift store hunting, antique treasure hunting and craft store goodies....

I got my giant candy jars at Home Goods (it's like a discount or clearance store for all kinds of cool things!)...and I bought a bunch of christmas ornaments to fill them with. I bought ornaments last year after Christmas when boxes of em' are all on clearance for like $1. So I bought all kinds of them last year! The ones in the jar in picture I got at Target just a couple weeks ago though!

We'll see how much I can get done in my artsy-craftsy-girly-retro-vintage-shabby-chic-candyland-makeup-filming-costume room! ha ha ha

And hopefully I'll have a new background in my videos to surprise you guys with!

PS...If you miss and loved the FLOWER WALL background I made, I did too! But a few people complained that it hurt their eyes or was too distracting, and I don't want to to hurt anyone's eyes, so flower wall is patiently waiting for a new purpose. (I think it would be so fun to make a whole FLOWER WALL in a room! It would be like you were in a garden!)

Brunette or Blonde?

Is is before and after time?

This is my mama-

BEFORE: with her natural dark brown hair

and AFTER: with a blonde wig I had laying around, on.

I loved how she looked with the blonde wig on, I told her I think she needs to really do this to her hair.

I love the haircut too!

What do you guys think?

I posted it on facebook and it got more comments than almost anything I've ever posted! ha ha ha

My mom is fun and open to new things, so she said since she got so many compliments (it made her day or year, to hear everyone say how young they thought she was!) And it might be easier for her grey "lovelies", to hide in blonde hair than nearly black hair. ha ha ha

So comment below, and she said maybe we could even do a video BEFORE and AFTER of her "blonde-ing" and hair cut!

I can't help but agree with you guys that commented that the lighter hair makes her look younger! What do you think?

Oh man, this is making me really want to do a fun drastic hair change too!

Ready to Get More Naked: NAKED PALETTE 2

Yes...because it wasn't enough to just get the first NAKED palette, which was instantly sold out everywhere....now Urban Decay has just released today, December 1st...the NAKED PALETTE 2!

Urban Decay invited me and several other bloggers to try out the palette before it came out a few weeks ago, but we weren't allowed to talk about it at all, until today! They sent us the palettes and then we were supposed to take pictures of "where we get naked"...like the gnome in Amelie, we would take pictures of where we wore out NAKED palette colors....I think all the bloggers will be on their website. I don't even know who the other bloggers are yet!

*no bloggers were paid to participate. no bloggers were hurt during the blogging. only bloggers who love Urban Decay, and love this palette were allowed to participate! Urban Decay doesn't test on animals...only bloggers! ha ha ha Just kidding! And they shipped us out the press sample palettes to drool over and play with!

My sister was visiting me, and used it every day to put her make-up on! Everyday I asked what she had on her eyes, because it looked great and everyday she was like, that same palette! But each day it looked totally different!

So let's get down to business....

here's the old naked palette swatches:

Original Naked Palette is on TOP & NAKED Palette 2 on the BOTTOM

~My "naked" take on these- at first glance you might think they look similar, but the original NAKED has more gold and yellow and peach-bronze hues, where the NAKED 2 has cooler more taupe colors with some mild golds, matte colors, and more muted bronze colors.

The "original" naked palette: has a lot more shimmers, and more golden-gold-bronze hues, like the 3 middle colors. I love the steel blue, Gunmetal too!
The NAKED 2: I love that they added a matte (no shimmer or glitter) black, I love that there are more matte colors, TEASE- a light dusty taupe, is gorgeous, and Pistol a silvery-grey-with hints of warmth, and VERVE are amazing on the eyes. And I like the light options of Bootycall and Foxy, for highlighting the inner corner of the eye

I love that the NAKED 2 palette, comes with a dual sided brush AND the NAKED lipgloss,

which is a beautiful nude rose- amazing, everyday wearable color on everyone!

This is the one palette you may want to add to your Christmas list. Even if you normally wear drugstore brands, this is worth putting on your gift list! And this is a great deal on so many shadows, a brush, and a lipgloss- plus, I like the sturdy metal case it comes in too!

I just found out on the website, the palette cost $50. But it would still probably sell out in hours, if it sold for $100! ha ha ha ha People went nuts over the last NAKED palette, they were selling on ebay for crazy amounts of money!

I read FASHIONTOAST 's blog, where she said the only palette she took to travel with was her naked palette! And I've done the same thing too! Now I'll have to be super "naked" and take them both! ha ha ha

Go check out the Urban Decay site, to see if any of these babies are left! The first NAKED palette sold out so fast it was insane!

Where'd You Get That Wednesday

Here's my first "Where'd you get that Wednesday"....I thought I would post about the most asked: "where'd you get that" items of the week!

Because sometimes people ask where I got stuff. Like my

"neon pink-flamingo" thermally fabric shirt...I wore in the "makeup makeover video":

as shown here in this "fabulous" screen grab from the video. I love this color, my eyes just want to eat it up and this shade makes you look really tan for some reason! I wish they made more shirts in this color!

IT IS FROM: FREE PEOPLE - it's called the SOLID LOVE BUG THERMAL in Flouro Peach

I love this shirt, it runs pretty big and swingy, but that's the style of the shirt.

It's made really well and I will wear this for years, so it was worth paying more than my normal Forever 21 prices, ha ha ha.

Next up, the silver metallic sweater, which is so cool, because it's soft but looks like it's shiny chrome! I got to be my holiday sweater to wear for Christmas, but ofcourse I'm gonna wear it for other days too! It's from ZARA- Metallic Sweater in Silver , but it comes in a few other "glossy" colors too.

And last but not twinkly, least....my star earrings, which have pretty much been glued in my ears! I just love them, and I've gotten compliments from young girls, to little old grandma's, to guys...everyone loves the star earrings!
The only problem is I can't find them for sale online anywhere! I got them at American Vintage on Melrose in West Hollywood, but I called them and they don't have anymore, and they said they don't know where they got them. They weren't vintage, they were just with all their costume stuff. Big booooooooo, on that. I just stopped blogging and called them to double check!

*Also shown here, big gold "angled earrings", I think are from Charming Charlie's, and the turquoise glitter bow, I got at Hot Topic, but they were on clearance, so they might now be around anymore! I can't stand that! They get rid of the coolest stuff!

Holiday Makeup Tutorial: EYE GLITTER

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this Look!
It is GLITTER EYES, like no eyeshadow around!

This is my first collaboration video ever- which means I teamed up with another Youtube Guru to create a themed look together. And I teamed up with the person who is the very reason I started on youtube, my inspiration for starting my tutorials, Lauren Luke, or Panacea81, as she's known on Youtube.

Our CollAboration Theme:

A HOLIDAY INSPIRED LOOK

I went with an dazzling, Glue & Glitter look, of sparkly, twinkling, gold on the eyes.

And a few lip color options.

(earrings: from a vintage-costume store on Melrose in Hollywood, Silver Sweater: from Zara)

Now let's go have some fun and "tutorial-it-up"! List of all the goodies I used below, too!
COME GET GLITTERY WITH ME IN THIS VIDEO:

What I used to get the look:

(For anyone who might have lighter skin than me, you can use more silver-gold, or whiter pearl color on the eyes too!)
*Any gold or shimmer paint pot, cream shadow, or I used, the BEN NYE GOLD SHIMMER STICK CRAYON
*Any light pearly, gold shimmer for under the brow bown. I used NAKED LUNCH from MAC.
*Any medium light gold eyeshadow, I used CHASE from the Urban Decay 15 YEAR Palette
*Any bright gold shimmery eyeshadow for the base color under the glitter.
*Any dark bronzey-gold brown eyeshadow to emphasize the crease area. If you don't have a crease, just shade this in with the shadow to create a "crease illusion" . I used DARKHORSE and SMOG from the Naked Palette from Urban Decay.

GLITTER & GLUE:
*Apply the eyelash glue onto the lid: I used the Eyelash Glue from Urban Decay, because it goes on less clumpy and stringy than the DUO eyelash glue. And I like that it dries clear instead of whitish.
(and ofcourse it's safe to use on your lid, because it was designed to go on your eyes.)
*Then pat the cosmetic grade glitter onto the glue with a not-so-fluffy brush. MAC, BEN NYE, and GRAFTOBIAN all make cosmetic grade glitter to use on the eyes, as well as the URBAN DECAY Glitter I used from their glitter tattoo set.

EYELINER & LASHES:
*I lined the inner rims of the eyes with my favorite black eyeliner, SMOLDER from MAC.
*Any black Liquid Liner- I used the Penultimate Liquid Eyeliner from MAC in Rapid Black.
*Any black eyeshadow- I used the black from my BEN NYE Glamour palette, it's even darker and "blacker" than Carbon from MAC, over the liquid liner.
*Any blackMascara- I used the Super Curling Mascara from Urban Decay.
*Any demi-wispie fake lashes. I used the TEASE lashes from Urban Decay.

You cannot stop staring at the glitter on the eyes! It's amazing! And I show how to do, and how to get it off in the video too!

Big Stylish Surprise!

I have a super duper, funzie, leopardtastic, studded surprise to show you guys soon!

I was invited to design something. (can't tell you all the details yet, because it's not done yet...but I just had to share a lil' somethin', because I'm sooooo excited!!!)

This is a dream come true, because I have always wanted to be a designer. Way before make-up I would design whole fashion collections!

So to be able to work on this, every detail, from the measurements, materials, details like extra things I can't wait to show you guys!!!

EEEEEEEEKKKK!

This will be up and for sale before Christmas....I will do a video on it as soon as I get the ok. I will not be selling these myself...I was just invited to come up with my dream design, whatever I came up with, they said they would make it, and this company will be selling it...I just have the honor of designing something and then seeing it become real....I have the sample (which I can't show you yet, but they said I could show you a little picture of part of it)....

so here it is!!!!

I am soooo excited!!! Stay tuned to see what this is!!!

Sunday Random Pictures & Favorites

So for this Sunday's random pictures in my phone. As I scrolled through, I found these....this picture with my hair all crazy- and I like it, because I've only liked how my hair has looked, about 1 time out of the last 30 days. And most likely it was when I just woke up...

And this old picture...because I used to run, every day. I miss running. It cleared my mind...and as a bonus, it made my calves look better than they do right now. I think those headphones are broken now. And it's been so long since I've gone running. I really miss it. Not much time to go running with a baby that doesn't like sitting in strollers to run with.

Treasures and bad lighting...

(I loved these cool, faux fur, animal print hats. One had a long scarf-like sides that hung down with pockets to keep your hands warm)

Some bloggers show you glossy, well-lit pictures of them traveling all over the world -sips of tea in London, an eclair as they stroll around Paris, in shoes that are ridiculously impractical to walk around in. Maybe even some exotic winter fur hat they've found, that costs hundreds of dollars from some brand you can't pronounce....
and then there's me.
I go to Target or Wal-Mart...because they are the closest stores I have. I take badly-lit pictures, void of all exotic locations, with my iphone. ha ha ha

But I think I find cool things that people always ask where I got, and they'd never guess where I found my cool treasures for cheap!
The most awesome thing I saw, though....were these babies...

Giant, adult sized footie pajamas. And if you were thinking, "man, those are not attractive"....may I point out the "almost-as-sexy-as-Vicoria's-Secret-leopard-print" one! ha ha ha

If you don't live near the coolest stores in the world, like me...and Target and Walmart are your escapes...you're not alone. And some of the coolest things I've found came from a vintage find at a thrift store, or like the zebra leggings I wore to that red carpet event, that I got at Kohl's, and one of my favorite belts of all time, that I've been wearing for years, came from Ross.
*Ross, is a discount store that sells all kinds of stuff that you'd pay way more for, like I got a pair of Royal Elastic shoes there once for $11!
