what the heck is in your hair!

and why do I wear 2 different earrings! well, I've got the answers for you...and you get to come on a fun adventure with me to meet my friend Bethanie, and watch her put FEATHER EXTENSION in my hair!

so fun, and yes that has been what's looked like highlights in my hair....but it was just "pregnancy" (because it's not safe to do highlighting when you're pregnant)...safe "highlights"....

COME ON...let's go on a hair adventure together!!!

huge love and 2 different earrings....your friend, KANDEE!

I love feather extensions! I recently got some and paid $20. I love the fact that you can still curl them and flat iron them and wash them and they dont get damaged. <3 them!

beth said...

yess do a tutorial im so lookint into this scince im pregant & love to change my hair alot

Anna said...

This is super rad! I wouldn't do it but it's really cool, especially that you can wash your hair with them in. That just blows my mind!

I do want to throw this out there...my OB/GYN said it was okay for me to dye my hair while pregnant, and he is the son of the doctor who founded the women's clinic I go to, which is one of the best-rated women's clinics in the US of A. What I would suggest for ladies to do is ask their doctor, but do know that mine said it was okay. :) Not trying to start anything, I just wanted to present the options for ladies worrying about hairdye during pregnancy.

shannon said...

that is so cool Kandee. I wish my hair was long enought for that. I have very short hair, maybe my 14 year-old daughter would want one.
Hope all is well with your daughter and family!!

Hi Kandee! you know when I first saw that you were wearing two different earrings I was like... what! so I'm not the only one doing that! and the thing is that I loose my earrings all the time and I have really cute ones and it would be such a waste not to ever wear them again just because I don't have the pair right? ;) So thanks for showing us the hair thing although I would never do something like that unless I know for sure the birds were not harm in anyway. But it was fun to see a new video from you ;) take care!

so like that's pretty dang cool. i've never heard of that!! that's so cool. i made a beaded/native hair extension in highschool on myself where i wove embroidery floss into a small section of my hair kinda like a friendship bracelet and then strung my beads of choice on it and it lasted FOREVER, washed just like hair and everything. the only thing was, after about a year the string started to fray and i kinda got tired of it, so i had to cut it out. ;-) very awesome Kandee thanks for sharing!

Ohh, I've put in extensions that way before! It's super easy and great because they're so temporary - you can take them out yourself anytime. It's important to bead them onto the right amount of hair; too small of a section can cause breakage!

Lovely Imperfection said...

omg to the girl who said she always losing an eaaring. me too, so i turn them into necklaces, lol :) i make em into pendants and swap out the chains ! and these extensions are def cool, id like to see !!

I love this look as well as the feather earrings you have. I think its funny that when I first came across your youtube videos I started to see how much our styles are the same because I've always worn like either two different earrings or one in one ear and two in the other and people would always say why are you wearing that or did you lose the other earring aha. I agree that its loads of fun to like spice it up and do something different. I'm in the process of getting my own jewelry line up and I have so many ideas of earring sets that are not like identical, like one earring is more simple then the other of the set is a little more edgy.. its fun when the creative juices start flowing aha thanks for always sharing your fun experiences!! ~Liz

I have worn 3 different earnings in my ears since I was in high school. Every one always wondered why. I just love to make them and I have tons and cannot decide which one to wear so I wear 3 different ones!!!!

Unknown said...

I knew they were feathers, they looked awesome.

As for haircoloring...there is not conclusive evidence that anything will happen to an unborn baby, most doctors believe it is safe now, and if mothers to be are concerned they recommend waiting until the third trimester. Highlights have never really been an issue as highlights generally don't start at the root. Just want to offer the information as I colored my hair during my pregnancy with no ill effects to my now 21 year old son.

Kandee, I am a huge supporter, & long time follower of yours, and think it's wonderful that you do DIY tutorials. Being a feather lock professional, I wanted to share with you some insider info on this super trend before you make the video. The feathers are back ordered by most sellers for about 2 months because producers could not keep up with the demand of rooster feathers. Yes, you have to kill the bird to get the feathers as they are not naturally molted. Feathers are sold usually only in very large quantities and cost at least $40 a package. If girls want feathers the inexpensive way, go to a salon to get them done for about $10. It will save the amount of roosters being killed for this trend, & will also keep them in supply of what they are intended for: fly fishing.this way girls can save money. AND keeping the local salons in business. Also, you have to trim the feathers with a pair of scissors very close to the scalp. I can already picture lots of girls with no feather lock experience cutting chunks of beautiful hair off of their head! The extension beads must also be purchased in large quantities & are not cheap (usually $15) just some food for thought. I have lots of experience doing this, so feel free to ask me any questions you like! That way if you do decide to make a video tutorial, it can be safely done by all. Email: yojessimac@yahoo.com
Sincerely & xoxo
Jess
Ps SAVE YOUR FEATHERS!! They are resuable! I've been using the same feathers in my own hair for the last 6 months! Recycle =)

cristina said...

My main concern is that they are not vegan friendly, and as yojessimac stated above, they do not seem to be. It looks pretty rad, but most definitely not worth it if animals are being killed for people to have
"cool" looking hair. That's just my view on it. If they were already molten feathers, that would be awesome.

yojessimac said...

Sadly, it is basically like taking a kitty's fur along with the skin, or human hair with the scalp. What you see in the hair extensions are only the feathers, but they are sold still attached to the pelts of skin. Definitely far from vegan, and more than likely not in a humane fashion. I have some remaining feathers from my business that I will be using up, but after that I will be calling it quits on the feathers locks business for this reason. They look cool, but no trend is worth taking a life.

sugabunnie said...

wow how cool i'm going to post about this on my blog i will leave a link later :D ohmigosh now i wanna do it to my hair :P

id love to see the how to video!!

cristina said...

It's sad to know that happens just like people wearing fur coats and leather for the "fashion." I know everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, even if they may not coincide with my own, but think about it, girls...

alissa said...

Hi Kandee! I have to say, I absolutely love the feather extensions! I live in the Midwest so theyre not that popular yet, but I just have to get some! Not real ones, probably just a clip. I wouldn't want to wear it every day. Theres a lot of them on Etsy that are really good.

I wear two different earrings now b/c of YOU, and people always ask me "did you know you have two different earrings in?" as if I didn't know LOL. I say yes, I got it from a friend named Kandee, I like the way it looks : )

I LOVE the feather hair extension idea, kinda reminds of something Native American-like, which I am partially! Although when Bethanie is explaining it, it sounds super confusing and complicated... I rather do what you did and get it done from someone else. So I don't know if the tutorial would be useful?

Thanks Kandee!! :DD

cristina said...

I have always loved your tips and advice on make up, Kandee, but this offends and disgusts me. I can't stress enough how wrong it seems to me that no one cares that these birds are getting slaughtered, not for food (which would make only slightly understandable, but not at all ethical)but for the sake of having "cool" or "edgy" looking hair. The human race is sincerely disappointing. I'm going to have to stop following your blog and unsubscribe from your youtube channels.

Unknown said...

Yes pleeeeeease!!! I think this looks super fabulous!

cristina said...

Out of curiosity, what in the world is a 100% recycled bird? Or a recycled bird in general? And does the fact that they were free range birds (which I am assuming is what you mean by farm raised)change the fact that you are paying people to kill them, simply because girls are paying you to send them feathers to stick in their hair???
