How to make your Great Grandma Hot for the Holidays!

WHO: this is my great gramma Viola (but we call her Gramma Vi)...she loves crocheting, making tortillas and Chuck Norris (she loves Walker Texas Ranger)...she really like coffee from Starbucks...and bacon.

She will be 91 after Christmas on her birthday!

I love her so much...she is so positive and happy all the time, no matter what! My favorite is when I would call her and ask her, "Grammy, how are you?" and she would say, "oh, still breathing!"... ha ha ha

WHAT: so my mom put on my super-big-cat-eye glasses as we found them packing...and then she said, "I have to go show Gramma! She'll love these!"....she did!!!

We decided that we should do a make-up make-over tutorial on gramma!! Wouldn't that be fun!?! Let me know what you think? I think it would be so awesome to make over my grammy!

She has had a very rough life, needing to leave school to take care of her 11 brothers and sisters...from being beaten by her first husband, thrown out of a moving car by him, he cheated on her, then he died in a motorcycle accident, being a single mom...she was a real life Rosie the Riveter (she would built the sites for the guns in World War II)...til she met my Grampa (who I loved so much, but is waiting in heaven for us)...and nothing has ever gotten her down or sad...she always says, "It could be worse!"...and no matter what everyday, she says, "Thank you my Jesus!" for letting her breathe and see the wind in the leaves of the trees!

Word of the day from gramma: It doesn't pay to get old! ha ha ha

OH...you can click here to see how "fancy" I looked moving yesterday...ha ha ha...I know a tutorial is on it's way...ha ha ha ha: www.kandeeland.com

from the great grand daughter......kandee

Awww Kandee! Such a sweet story. I miss my Great Grandma so much! Not a lot of people are lucky enough to know their Great Grandma's. I was very close to mine. She passed away when she was 96, 8 years ago. She went through a lot in her life as well. But, she never lost her Faith in Jesus!! Can't wait to see her again in Heaven one day! Merry Christmas to you and your Family!!

Aww, she's beautiful =) I think it would be awesome if you did a make up video on her. What a blessing it is to have both your Grammy AND your Great Grammy too! My grammies live in different states, so I'm not very close to them. I love older people...they are talking, breathing, cuddly history books. =D

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that your great grandma is called Viola - cause that's MY name! And nobody usually has the same name - at least not around here (in Finland)!

Tell your great grandma that another Viola from Finland think she looks so very beautiful!

And yep - the tutorial sounds like fun! I'd love to "meet" Viola :)!

Yes!! Do it. I love it. My great grandma just turned 95! I grew up in her house since my mom was a single mom and she let us live in the upstairs apartment of the house. I absolutely love her even when she is being super stubborn! (Shes 100% german)lol. I always knew her as "grandma downstairs" since I have so many grandmas and we lived upstairs. Haha. She was independent and able to live on her own until a few years ago. She still does pretty well on most days. Growing up she always dyed her hair a dark red, would make her eyebrows super dark with black eyeliner and would curl her hair we the old time curlers. Haha. But I think it would be so fun to see you make over your great grandma.

It is always like that: Grandmas always go through so hard to believe things and all of them are always happy and charming. Isn't that truth?!

Your great Grandma is an amazing woman. I'm delighted with your Grandma's attitude towards life after all that she has gone through... You, girls, all have beautiful souls. And big "yes" to the make-over!

I'm sure you have followers who have more 'mature' skin, so a makeover on Grammy would be great for them! I would love to see it just because I imagine your Grammy must be as sweet as you and your Mom and would love to see the three of you interacting together :)

What a great lady.
Goes to show you that bad situations (like hers) can turn out for the good. Just stay positive and rely on Jesus!

I love your cute super sweet grandmama and I wish her many more birthdays.

Merry Christmas Kandee and Grandmama

your grammy definitely deserves a makeover. and it would be a great tutorial for all of us out in the bloggosphere to see what we could do to show our love to our grammys. makeovers aren't just for the young -- for the young at heart.

My Nanna wakes up everyday and thanks God too (:
Shes living with us at the moment and at night time I can hear her praying and thanking God for each one of us and telling him about how happy she is to be here. How wonderful is that :) She always sees the world through rose tinted glasses and somehow thinks everything could always be worse.
I would absolutely love to see you make over your grammy she sounds like an amazing lady! I wish her many more Happy Birthdays to come.

You're granny reminds me a lot of the women in my life: strong, wise, and tough with a beautiful heart and soul. I think you should make this lady look as beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside. And just to add one more note, you are beautiful on both the inside and outside too and your words are extremely empowering and motivating, so thank you for all that you do.

My gramma puts her make up every morning! Seriously! Grannies may be older, but they still want to look nice. You should totally do the make over on lady Viola, I think my gramma would appreciate it, hee hee.

Your great-grandma seems so wonderful! I guess they're called "great" grandmas for a reason! It's amazing all the things that she's been through, I think usually a person would be suffering from depression after all of that, but not her! Nothing can keep her down! That's awesome. Do a makeup tutorial on her, then we can all "meet" her! I hope you and your family have a very merry Christmas!

I think it would be wonderful to see you do a make over on your great grandmother. My grandmother is 92 as of tomorrow and she sounds just like that.
She was diagnosed with cancer as of Monday however, my mother and I have been struggling with her going downhill over the past few months. I'm hoping she'll make it through the holidays this year.

kandee, this is a precious post. i had to do a double take when i looked at the picture...she looks so much like my granny did before she died. she had Alzheimer's and passed away when i was pregnant with my little girl. she was not really responding to anyone towards the end but when i told her i was going to have a baby girl she opened her eyes and looked at me, she heard me, she understood, she knew. she was a wonderful soul and had a tough life too but she and my granddaddy had a wonderful love story. i loved to listen to her stories. i am so glad you have your gramma vi. she sounds just perfect. God bless her and you and all your family. give her a hug from me and keep on keeping on. you are doing a great job. you have so many people rooting for you. Merry Christmas!

I would love to see her with makeup. So often we see women under 60 getting makeovers, would be nice to see how you approach someone older. I very strongly believe women of any age can be beautiful. I hate our culture's obsession with youth as the sole source of beauty.
