what i'm wearing: leopard dress MINKPINK, Vintage Squash Blossom Necklace, white shirt BCBG, belt (super old, got it at Ross, I think), black fringe boots: Minnetonka's 3:30-ish: Taking Taxi to Allure (magazine) Lounge near Lincoln Center where the big Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week stages are.
(some girls were kinda rude/snooty/snobby to me in there...
Right after the Diane Von Furstenberg show, I was trying to take a picture of Valentino when my camera battery died- I turned behind me and saw my friend Jill! We hugged forever...I haven't seen her since last year!
I finally got to meet Rocco Gaglioti of Fashion News Live outside the tents. We had been trying to connect for a while. He asked if I wanted to host for Fashion News Live- I said yes and got to interview Kelly Osbourne after the Zac Posen show. She looked beautiful with a 40's inspired updo-ponytail and a chic black dress with gold detail, gorgeous grey heels and the lightest, most delicate make-up. She looked amazing and was even sweeter in person than I've seen on tv.
then I was so excited all day because I was going to meet one of my favorite YouTube gurus: Bubzbeauty, who lives in Hong Kong, but was here for Fashion Week! I love her!!!
We have only messaged each other, so it was so great to meet her in person. She is lovely, adorable, so, so nice and we had a yummy dinner and she even got to hold Cupake.
(warning: horribly lit picture from my iphone)
Bubz, Wendy (from Wendy'sLookBook on youtube-she is such a sweetie-pie too, baby and me, and my friend Stephanie. I never get to have dinner with friends, so this was so fun! Best Beignets ever for dessert.
Today will go down in my memory book as: "What a great day to cherish and remember always!"
And once again, I'll be turning 7! ha ha ha ha
I was born: July 9th
where: Southern California
And yes: the name on my birth certificate is just KANDEE...not Kandace or anything else, just lil' ol', Kandee Johnson!
I have never received so many wonderful birthday wishes and love, as I have this year...and just to think about it makes my heart want to cry! I am so honored to be a part of your lives, your day, and even take up a little bit if room in your heart! (I won't take up much!)
I remember a birthday I spent alone, in a tiny dark condo, it was the first time I had tried to bake a cake from scratch, and it came out horrible...it was like gooey play-do that was hot...it was very disappointing! I remember feeling kinda sad, I was alone...my sad little attempt to have a little something birthday-ish failed, and I just wished I had someone to celebrate with me. Someone to bring me a cake or just hug me, or just tell me HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
And as I looked at my facebook page, my heart swelled, seeing so many people sending me amazing birthday love and kind, words from your hearts...if only that sad birthday girl, who almost cried looking at her even sadder looking cake...would've known then that hundreds of people would be sending her birthday cheer (i never would've believed it!).
This is such a joy-filled day....not just because it's my birthday...but because I feel so honored, so privileged, so special to be a part of your hearts...hearing people write that they are glad that I was born....(if only you could see or catch one of the tears from my eyes right now)...you have no idea how much those words mean to me! No dream I've had before comes close to comparing to what an honor it is to know that I mean something to each of you, that you've let me come into your life, and that I am able to be your friend...
thank you for celebrating my birthday with me...thank you for loving me....thank you for all your kind and incredible words...thank you for making me, a girl who sat in a dark apartment, years ago, in a horrible relationship, in a city far away from everyone I knew, all alone, with no friends...feel like this is the birthday where I have more friends than I ever dreamed of!
I love you all so dearly! My heart breaks for you when I read or see something you've sent to me...I rejoice when I see you realizing your dream, discovering how beautiful you are, finding out how amazing and one-of-a-kind-special you truly are!
Thank you for making this an AMAZING birthday!!!! Love, candles, and cupcakes.....your Kandee
HERE's A LITTLE VIDEO THAT SOMEONE SO TALENTED AND SWEET MADE FOR ME ON YOUTUBE...I thought you'd like it because it shows me when I'm a baby and little!
ENJOY!!!! LOVE YOU ALL!!!! the birthday girl....heehee
Here it is! My beautiful friend Saori (pronounced "sow-dee")...she is so sweet and kind, and is absolutely gorgeous. Her bone structure is amazing, and it was so fun to put make-up on her! And yes, she is the model in the WetSeal ads! She's been a Ford model since she was a baby, and you can read about her exciting adventures in modeling on her blog: http://vivesomnium.blogspot.com
This look was inspired by the runway looks at THREEASFOUR...it is a beautiful "pointillism" design, which is basically lots of little dots. The pattern was inspired by paintings done by Yoko Ono, John Lennon's lady. I wanted to use an amazing eye-tingling color...so I used all the green and yellow pigments I had just bought at the MAC pro store, right before I got there! I used Chartreuse, True Chartreuse, Kelly Green, and Rockit Yellow...I did under the eyes in Full Force Violet. The Violet had enough red pigment that it makes the green pop, green and red being complimentary colorsand all....so purple got pop green like crazy too, it's a secondary complimentary color. this is where we did the make-up, on the street level gallery space, where me and Saori's friend, just did an art show the day before...we got to use these awesome lights (much better than the "spectacular" lighting in my bathroom! ha ha ha ha)
other make-up I used:
on her face: I used DINAIR airbrush make-up for foundation, even though I just applied it with my fingers.. I LOVE DINAIR's foundation (i wear it everyday....and it looks so, SO flawless...I used GOLDEN OLIVE foundation...click on the image to order (tell em kandee sent ya')
Next I used Urban Decay eye primer, pale yellow eye pencil from the mac pro store (or you could use white) I used MAC liquid liner in BOOT BLACK, and RUNWAY FAVE (a grey-ish nude) lipgloss from MAC
Saori and me, decided this was going to be our New Year's look! Thank you so much Saori for letting me put make-up on your dollface! enjoy the video....!!!! and happy almost christmas!!!! xoxo kandee kane
i went to the airport...then I went to get a magazine to calm my "no-likey-the-flying", nerves... I grabbed the ELLE magazine... I knew I had won the CoverGirl contest...but I hadn't seen the ad, and i didn't know when it would come out! I was so excited...and my name was printed all HUGE...Kandee!!!
And I'm right next to DREW BARRYMORE, in the magazine!!! I love her! I can't believe I am in a magazine, right next to Drew Barrymore!!! Maybe she'll even look at the page with me on it!!!! Oh my GOODNESS!!!!!! I am so, EXCITED!!!!!!
I wanted to buy 5 issues, but I didn't because it would've made my purse too heavy (you know how big magazines are!?!)....i think I'm on page 262, or something close like that....I put all the subscription cards that usually fall out on you, as a markers! ha ha ha ha
I am so excited!!!!!! I'm in Elle, magazine!!!! (For December!!!...) yay!!!!!!!! Okay....I'm going to go back and stare at the page some more, ha ha ha ha, just kidding! huger than huge love on this sparkly day.... remember to tell someone you love them...and just how beautiful they are..... kandee
lunch on Olvera Street...an enchanted little street that makes you feel like you got to Mexico....for some reason I think these Lucha Libre (mexican wrestling masks are awesome) ha ha ha what i ate: flautas and rice (and chips & salsa ofcourse)
the HUGE factory where American Apparel clothes are made...the sign says LEGALIZE LA....ha ha ha....this place looks like a big spooky prison....i don't like it....but I thought the sign was funny
i drew my name in the sand on the beach in santa monica.....with a love heart....for anyone who needs a little extra love today.... oh sunset!!! I filmed a little bit of the sunset and running around santa monica pier....just need to edit it....like i took you with me!!!!i even went on a scary ride..ha ha ha
me...trying to rest in the dressing rooms at H & M (on the 3rd street Promenade in Santa Monica)..while my friend tried on clothes.... right after I took this picture...a girl that worked there, came up and asked if I was "kandee johnson".....I felt so famous...hee hee hee, she was super nice and said she subscribed to me...and read my blog!!!! yay!!! If you ever see me, please say hi...and I promise I'll give ya a hug!I'm really nice and friendly... in elevator..taking myself out to dinner my LA burger....bacon, roquefort cheese (facny) and fries....BEFORE AFTER... ha ha ha ha... that was my day in photos..... the sun is sparkling down on your heart...enjoy this day...no matter what or who happens!!! huge love, kandee
this was me.... about 2 months, post-shaving-my-head-at-a-commercial-break...where I saw Erika Badhu with a baldy head...I thought she looked stunning...and very un-britney spears....
at home: I stood and stared at my head....for a long time...and rubbed it....it felt wonderful!
at work: people screamed
at home: "what did you do!?!"...came from everyone's mouth...ha ha ha ha...but that's been a theme in my life...ha ha ha (what did you do to your pants? what did you do to your walls? what did you do to your hair?")
i've been trying to grow it out since then.....many a bad haircuts (not by jerry...by some "nameless" salon in san diego..where I left with yellow hair in an unwanted asymmetrical cut) and accidental scissor-mishaps...
to today...where I take you with...a butterfly on the wall....to get my hair cut by Jerry Park at BARRACUDA salon 7769 Melrose Ave Los Angeles, CA90046 (323) 852-7179 click here for more info at facebook: BARRACUDA SALON on facebook
I began my morning with the sounds of sirens and busy sidewalks in downtown LA...and found my way to the middle of the desert where the only sounds to be heard were the whirings of cars going by and the sound of wind blowing past the curves of your ears...
I can't tell you the beauty of watching a big, buttery yellow, moon rise above the huge purpley mountains...and breathing in clean air that has traces of sagebrush dancing through it...
I love this red rock canyon...the have filmed many movies around here...and many JC Penney jeans ads in the 80's were shot here...ha ha ha ha
my words couldn't explain...so here's a little "be-a-butter-fly-on-wall" with me video.... I hope it adds a little beauty to your day....huge love and may beauty be found wherever you look....kandee
PS...I'll post my shopping trip...before I headed to the desert..next...random funthings I saw in some stores....
enjoy the moonrise...(and I can hear.."I see a baaaaad moon arisin'..." by Creedence Clearwater Revival playing...ha ha ha ha...My dad used to sing that when I was little.... TIP: if you click on the lower RIGHT hand corner of the video..it will play it bigger!
I do a lot of make-up looks...and I wish I had someone to show, or go somewhere....or wish it was for a photo shoot....and I'm just making youtube videos...so I go and just wash all my hard work off....and start a new one....ha ha ha
I have a very dear friend, Ian Ruhter...who happens to be an incredibly talented photographer...and I always feel so honored when he photographs me! Ian works for huge globally famous companies...that pay him more than I ever could...so I feel so "fancy" whenever Ian wants to let me stand in front of his talented, picture-taking self. Ian is amazing...and so are his photo projects....his work makes your heart feel the beauty in the image. And he has taken some of the most amazing photos with lil' ol me in em...you can scroll through his blog and see them...from the bubbles one to the balloons in NY...to the brooklyn bridge (one of my fav's...and not because I'm in it...ha ha ha)...I am honored to get to "creative play" with him....and I am honored to have him as a friend. I wish I lived next door to him...so I could run over and we could play photo shoot everyday! He is so brilliant...and this was probably the most fun I've ever had, having my picture taken...he makes me laugh a lot...so there was a lot of kandee-laughing faces...ha ha ha
I wanted to do a modern-colorful-kandee-twist, with Marie Antoinette as my inspiration. (I filmed the look too...so I'll edit it as soon as I can)...to know me is to know I love color...and this shoot was very kandee-ful! (ha ha ha)
i even had to take the eyelashes off so we could go to lunch...ha ha ha....I'm brave with my looks...but....ha ha ha ha
you can see more upcoming posts at Ian's fanpage....I think he'll be posting the pics from the other look I did too on there...click here to join
I love Disneyland...and pretty much all old Disney movies.... Snow White is so delicate, gentle, and adorable....I loved..LOVED...LOVED doing this make-up look!
Even the hair was fun to do!
I just wanted to go live in Disneyland or one of the enchanted lands~
I researched the art and painting of Disney...they mixed and created their own colors! The look of the original Snow White: And the Seven Dwarfs, was soft with, bright lips and grey-brown eyeshadow...I tried to replicate it exactly as the art from the movie.
I hope you guys like it..I think this was my favorite look and favorite video so far!
For the make-up...I used: a very light foundation (any brand will do) concealer wheel by LISE WATIER (i got mine at www.naimies.com) a light powder (any brand. I used La Mer pressed powder)
For the EYES, I used, a light shimmery yellow color....(Rice Paper from MAC) a dark grey shadow ...(PRINT from MAC) a grey-brown...(COPPERPLATE from MAC) a warm chocolatey brown (CORK from MAC)
A black liquid or cream liner (any brands)
RED lips!!! ( any bright blue-red lipstick) I used a bright red lip liner (Cherry from MAC) I used RUBY WOO from MAC and any red gloss if you want some added dazzle!
FOR the hair, you just need: bobby pins, hair spray, a brush, and 2 curling irons - 1 small one and one larger...
May I present, Her Royal Highness...the Queen of Hearts! (this is my version of the Queen of Hearts, played by Helena Bonham Carter, in Tim Burton's, Alice In Wonderland....and her royal make-up! Video FACTS:stay tuned til the end for a special treat for all of you precious blog-family!!! I heart you- from Kandee of Hearts! (hee hee)I show you how to get rid of your eyebrows - temporarilyI used an Elmer's Glue Stick (like 50 cents at the store and a spatula...you can use a butter knife...I got my spatula atwww.naimies.com
I was up until 6 am editing this video....I hope you like it...my eyeballs are burning! ha ha ha
ENJOY!!! Have a fantastic day!!! I heart you all!!!!! xo Kandee
and here's Johnny..... (Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland) when I was 12...I auditioned for the role of Alice, in Alice In Wonderland..it was a musical. I got the part (insert...YAY!)...I made my outfit...a NEON Alice In Wonderland...3 tiered neon orange, green and pink skirt neon shirt...neon headband, and some sort of brightly colored footwear, I'm sure....memory is a little hazy...ha ha ha I sang, I wandered (under pink and orange stage lights)...talked to caterpillar's... it was fun....every night, I loved it!
My favorite part about make-up, is the art and creative thinking that is involved... this look was so fun to come up with...as an artist, this is my favorite...really "painting" and "designing" a look... for the EYEBROWS...I first tried a gigantic pair of fake eyelashes...they looked bad....then I remembered I bought feathers for the Marie Antoinette look....so away I went to glue some feathers for eyebrows....I like the "Artsy" feel that they gave...very ethereal!
may I mention, that I really like Johnny Depp...(even when he was on 21 Jump Street...ha ha ha)
HAIR COLOR TIP: spend an extra dollar and buy the good hair color spray...mine was the store brand (Target, Wal-Mart, etc)....and it stunk, didn't really cover well....spend the extra 75 cents or so...it's worth it! (before the ceremonial 10 face washings....to remove all feather-glue traces...) watch and enjoy...please feel free to make a video response on youtube if you do this look! I'd love to see! have a great day...remember "It's NEVER TOO LATE, to be who you might have been"- George Herbert (Julia Child was in her 50's when she started cooking!) huge smiles, kandee
it looks like we're in jail! (it was dangerously, hot outside...ooooh even the streets say DANGER in LA...ha ha ha...it's just from the old trolley cars..that my great-gramma rode on!)
i grew up watching Pee Wee's Playhouse, The Snorks, and Full House... i wore side ponytails, studded boots, and lots of scrunchies in my hair...
I love the 80's!!! Later in life...in the 2000's (so space-age and modern)....I did make-up for the show, I LOVE THE 80's, that's on VH1...and I always loved how they'd bring up old things I'd forgotten about...like the show, Alf, or something funny....
This outfit wasn't made to be "80's", but everyone seemed to make a comment about , "oh, rockin' the 80's"..."bringing the 80's back"..."80's..this...80's that"...ha ha ha ha so here it is...and I'm cool with the 80's reference...I say it's more 2009-and-a-half....ha ha ha
what I slapped on to get 80-fied..... Graphic leggings & orange earrings from FOREVER 21 white men's tank by Hanes (got it at Wal-Mart) Orange shirt from Urban Outfitters (don't know if they have anymore)(look at still shot of the tag in the video to search for it) BOOTS (from the vintage clothing store on Melrose Ave) BELT (black leather belt with rings from Ross) Chain (wallet chain from Hot Topic) Skapron (skirt + apron)...I made it from cutting an old pair of Levi 501's (the button fly kind), cut like in the video.....
have an awesome and rad (rad was born in the 80's and is still cool...ha ha ha) day..... enjoy this video...and the dancing...is purely because I like it!
i get asked all the time..."where did you get your yellow ring?????"....so I'm going to tell ya', how you can get a flower ring for your digit (finger) too!
