Chicago with Me

Me and my Jordan at Ed Debevic's...a 50's style diner where the waiters are grumpy and rude on purpose, and it's hilarious. Our waiter threw our straws at us and told me not to throw up in his booth after I drank my milkshake! ha ha ha

Notice everyone at the tables wearing their white paper hats....I wondered how they got everyone to wear their hats...well our waiter said he'd only come back to take our order if we wore our hats! ha ha

this was Jordan's favorite sign...."Don't Eat With Your Mouth FULL!"

the Chicago skyline with the moon shining above...

Jordan is seen here sitting on a vintage couch, in a vintage store....who had shared none of my love of vintage things! We headed to the Wicker Park area of Chicago, which reminded me of Melrose Ave in Hollywood- vintage stores, American Apparel, Urban Outfitters, Buffalo Exchange (used clothes) and even a John Fluevog store....throw in some Pinkberry Yogurt stores and lots more crazy vagrants and a smoggy sky and you'd be very reminded of Melrose.
I loved the red letters that spelled out "EAT"....speaking of eating, we had lunch at Club Lucky in the Wicker Park neighborhood...best italian food I've ever eaten! I had the Rigatoni 4 cheese special with spinach...oh my gosh!!!! I wish I had more right now...even their Olive Oil was unlike any olive oil I've ever tasted, you could've poured it on my shoe and I would've eaten it!
I loved these little Bambi's...and I will probably be mad at myself for not buying them later! I could just see them decorating my make-up table with their little retro eyelashes! Darn it! I should've bought them! I'm kicking myself already!
I was going to try to upload more pictures, but for some reason my computer has taken so long already, it's taken me almost 3 hours to upload all these so far for this blog...
I shall retire for the night....me sleepy, me must sleep...have to get up early...

huge love from Chicago....pizza and more pizza.....your kandee

I am glad you got to see Chicago- although I was born in Poland, I grew up there from the age of 7.

Ed Debevic's is great!

Hey girl... I need some major advice on starting as a freelance make-up artist. I'm working on building my kit but i want to know more about how to get myself out there in the beauty industry. Any advice would be greatly appreciated right now. I had applied for my student loan for school and unfortunately it did not come through due to me not being a resident in the province i want to go to school in and the province i do reside in won't let me go to school out of province to the school i want. So i'm not sure where i am supposed to go now. This is the 4th time i've tried to go to school since i was 19 and i am now 28 and i have such a huge passion for make-up and want to be awesome at this but i am sick of people saying no no no for schooling. I dropped out of high school part way through grade 11 to take care of my mom who was ill and finally got a job and tried to go to school a few times. i finally just gave up after my third attempt at a loan which was from an unemployment lady telling me i would never make any money in this industry. So i sit here super frustrated today and not knowing what to do at this point. This is my dream and my passion but I don't know where to go or what to do anymore. I'm 28 and want to start my life and not just be a cashier at grocery store for the rest of my life. I'm just sick of trying to open doors for myself and everyone slamming them in my face. I have worked so hard since i was 19 at crappy jobs have helped my mom and step-dad when they needed it and try to be a good person. I want this so badly. I love your work so much and I admire you a ton. You're my make-up hero. Any advice would be fantastic on what to do.

I'm so glad that you're having so much fun here Kandee! Chicago has so much to offer and I bet even Jordan is having a great time! By the time you leave here... you'll be addicted to deep dish pizza! Thinking I'll have to send you my recipe so you can make it when you get back home :)

Hey Kandee,

I'm glad you loved Wicker Park! I totally saw a billboard for Raybands the other day on the Chicago street (I live in Chicago) and it reminded me so much of you! The girl was rocking out in some awesome shades and had your totally awesome long dark hair!

Your son is so handsome and it looks like you had a great time in Chicago! Come back soon! This city may not be LA or New York, but I like to think we do alright as the "Second City"! :)

I love vintage things I wish I could go to those stores. Everything in the pictures are so cute.

I'm glad you had a good time in Chicago Kandee! I can't believe you were so close and I didn't run into you! I actually grew up in Wicker Park/Bucktown and it's very different now. Hope you get a chance to visit other neighborhoods next time you come. (:
